What is the deal with the holds on the financial aid awards recently? I sent my counselor an email about them, after attempting to resolve the situation posted in growl, and I have yet to get an email or phone call back. Not only that, but the aid office phones are constantly busy.

It's just ridiculous that they would require additional steps now, considering they reviewed the AID requests back late June. Has anyone gone into the office and has got this resolved?

I at first accepted a loan but then decided that loans were just a sticky mess so sent a letter to decline it. I have this “hold” now on my Growl account and it has been there forever! An financial aid secretary told me to not worry about it. It still just lingers there…I wonder when this announcement will go away. So far, UCR has ****ed me off though with their financial aid and advising! Had to be put on hold for over 30 minutes…

I’m a parent, and after college I worked for a University in the Registrar’s Office. Believe me, they (along with Financial Aid, Admissions, etc) are working their hardest to handle all of the issues coming their way in the final weeks and days before school starts.

It’s a very busy time for the college staff right now, and they are trying to accommodate the hundreds of issues passing by their desks each day.

So, recognize that you might be on telephone hold for awhile, and it may take some time for them to get back to you with a resolution. But understand they are working furiously behind the scenes to get everything straightened out before school starts!

Okay, so this is what went down today. I went to go see the financial aid counselor, and apparently the UCR system has made a bunch of errors and has put peoples financial aids on HOLD because of something wrong with their computers reading the EFC. After talking with her briefly, she said everything was okay and that she has cleared my holds.

I would definitely go down there TODAY if you have your awards on hold because payment for classes are due TODAY. If you don’t pay for your classes, you will be dropped, unless you do the DPP or deferred payment plan. The office is open till 4 pm, HOWEVER, the walk ins are in the early morning. Aka, RIGHT NOW.
