My 'unofficial award letter' is now showing under Financial Aid for UCSB. Mine is only loans as expected,
but one can always hope!

^ Ouch. Good thing it’s not final!

Mine’s pretty much what I expected, except for the Freshman Scholarship. It’s small, yet renewable. A nice touch. Combined w/Honors, SB has now passed San Diego on my list. :)

Can someone explain this to me, because i also only got loans. I know i didnt get the regent scholar thing, but what are the other ways they give you money. Is there a cutoff for how much your family makes?

^ Are you guys international/out of state?

@Lilliana330 i’m in state

@ToasterStrudel69 Are you eligible for a Cal Grant?

@Lilliana330 I got an email saying im ineligible for cal grant a little bit after i sent in my FAFSA

@ToasterStrudel69 Ohh, that must be why. Cal Grant is meant to cover tuition at UCs & CSUs. Sorry /: Have you applied to outside scholarships?

@Lilliana330 Yeah I have, but going back to Cal Grant, do you think it’s because my family is above the cutoff? My parents make about 180k combined for a family of four. Is that too much or should I still have been eligible?

@ToasterStrudel69 Yeah, that’s it. Families of four need to make under 87k. All you can do now is focus on applying for scholarships.

@Lilliana330 Ok yeah I just wanted clarification! Thanks for the info!

@ToasterStrudel69 No problem!

By the way, you can log in to the Cal Grant website mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov and see what you are eligible for or the reason why you don’t get anything. It will usually say something like ‘exceeds income limit’ or ‘exceeds asset limit’.
I am in-state and my EFC is higher than the COA so I realized there would not be any need-based aid. But since daughter was admitted to honors program, was hoping for any small ‘freshman awards’ I have been seeing mentioned here.
And even though it says ‘unofficial award letter’, I’m guessing that it will only change if they find mistakes in your FAFSA or maybe if you submit outside scholarship information.

So how much grant/freshman award did you guys get if you dont mind me asking?

With grants along with other personal scholarships. Ucsb will cost me around 11K a year. Not bad for OOS! California really does care :D

how much did you get for freshman award? does the ucsb grant include the cal grant?

I got about 17k in grants: 12k of Cal Grants, 2k of UCSB grants/need-aid, and a 3k UCSB merit scholarship (the freshman award). Might go down a bit once I update FAFSA w/2013 taxes, though.

If you are expecting a cal grant A, but your award letter only shows ucsb grant ---- I am pretty sure that they just don’t have the final cal grant list yet, and once it is final, it will show up and your ucsb grant will be reduced by that amount.

Is anyone’s financial aid not showing up? Mine isn’t…

littleasian02 I wouldn’t worry about it. Twitter for UCSB admissions said they would be up next week. If they were able to put some up earlier, still they might need the full time for others. Twitter said they were cranking them out as fast as they could.
