Financial Aid offers are posted on WA

Oh sorry, we did NOT submit tax return! Did everyone who received financial aid submit tax return?

mickjagger - we never sent our 2010 or 2009 taxes to Michigan just did FASFA and still got our notice.

S didn’t get any email either. When we check the website, it says ‘Parents 2010 tax return requested’ :frowning: Why wouldn’t they let us know if anything was needed? Lame.

S’s WA also said we need to send them the parent 2010 tax return, but they offered the package as I posted earlier.

OOS - I received 10k in the Michigan traditional scholarship , 24k in Michigan grants, 5.5k in fed grant, and 3k for work study. 6k left to pay! :)

5K/year from Tucker Memorial Scholarship, 5.5K/year loans. Needless to say, I won’t be going to michigan.

i’m confused, i never got any notifications about FA i only submitted FASFA and now looking on WA it asks for a few other things. Can i still get FA if i didn’t submit these other parts? Can i still send them?

I sent in FAFSA only and it never told me I needed anything else on jan. 2nd…sent in tax returns also just to be safe recently but still no award notice :(

MichMom07

What forms did you send them? The entire package or just the 1040 part of the tax return? I am really confused right now on what certain forms they need.

Also, as part of the CSS Profile, I sent my tax documents to them so they can send them to the colleges I am applying financial aid for. Does anyone know if I still need to send my parent’s tax documents seperately?

allnycolleges, Umich need FAFSA + CSS. Send tax return only when they requested (by email, or mail, or post request on WA)
[University of Michigan Office of Financial Aid: Prospective Undergraduates](http://www.finaid.umich.edu/Apply_and_Receive_Aid/Applying_for_Aid/prospectiveug.asp)

Emzee1, you do not need to send tax return to Umich separately unless they ask you to do so. My S’s case, we submitted FAFSA and CSS in early January. Now the package was posted on WA, at the same time they requested (the request date was 3/4/2011) the parent 2010 tax return. I will fax the tax return to them Monday.

Emzee - I sent our 1040 plus Schedules A, M, and the form for Education Credits.

@umfresh2011

So did you also send the tax forms for the CSS profile as well (via IDOC)?

MichMom07 - Thanks for the info!

Emzee1, I did send the tax forms to the IDOC as requested (email) by IDOC. This is because some schools my S applied uses IDOC service to get tax forms information. What IDOC does, I believe, is to scan the documents and post them as image files on their site so that the schools use IDOC service can see the documents. UMich requires CSS, but does not use IDOC service. If Umich want to verify your tax forms, they will inform you (email, mail, etc). So for Umich only, you do not need to send tax forms to the school (if not requested) or to IDOC. You send tax forms to IDOC because some schools you applied use IDOC service and IDOC would email you and let you know what documents to send to them.

In summary, some schools use IDOC, some not. Umich does not use IDOC, so the documents you sent to IDOC, Umich has no access.

Didn’t get an offer, but they’re asking me for literally 6 different documents…is this normal? Will there be any money left by the time I turn all of this in?!

umfresh-
My S also applied to a school that employs IDOC, and we sent all required returns, etc. in early February. It makes sense, then, that UM needs to get them from me, since they do not use the service.

Yosup, awards don’t typically vary RADICALLY from one year until the next but if you were late getting your documents in or your parents financial status has in any way changed it could be different. Entrance scholarships usually just carry forward. Re: docs --get your stuff in asap obviously because the STATE grants can go quickly. So if your package last year had MComp money, etc., yes, it does run out quick and yes, you really should file by FEB 15 every year to make sure you’re in by the Mar 1 deadline for state grants if eligible.

I just checked my son’s wolverine access and indeed, they are asking for our tax returns again this year. Never got an e-mail asking for them. The date on wolverine access is February 26th (with FAFSA being received on February 25th). Faxing them in the morning. Nothing has changed since last year, so I’m surprised they are asking for them again.

Thanks kmc. I submitted the FAFSA early feb, and they’re finally requesting documents now so as long as I get those in the next week or so, I should be good right?

hopeful2014: Where on Wolverine Access does it ask you to submit tax return?

Also, is there anyone on this forum who has not received a financial aid award package? There are no financial aid documents in my WA…

Yes. yosup, if you already had it in you should be good!
