I just received an e-mail saying that Vassar does not have my parent's 2008 tax return forms or their W2's. I am going to get this information to them (hopefully) by tomorrow or Wednesday (my step-dad needs to check with his employer about getting his W2s because the e-mail said only a copy from the employer would be accepted).

Does anyone know whether or not this will affect my chances as an ED1 applicant? Will I be pushed back to the ED2 pool?

Please help, I'm freaking out!!

I got a similar email. I’m calling the finaid offce tomorrow morning. This is really distressing.

I also got the same e-mail. From what I understand this won’t
affect ED 1. However, I didn’t realize they need new W2’s? Can’t
we use the ones from the 2008 taxes?

“From what I understand this won’t affect ED 1.”
Okay, great.

They need both the taxes from 2008 and the taxes from 2009 when they come out. They use the 2008 taxes to estimate what our finaid package will be like. When 2009 taxes are filed February/March, we can send those in and they’ll reevaluate the finaid packages they offer us (WHEN WE GET ACCEPTED! 8D).

So yeah.

Its my understanding that copies of the W-2s that were filed with the 2008 tax return would be sufficient. But check with FinAid to be sure.

Oh good, I’m glad I’m not the only one. After looking at the Financial Aid website, it seems like the only thing this will affect is the amount of aid that we receive…but it’s not like we’re sending in the information on December 14th, so I think it’ll be fine.

P.S. - Thanks so much for responding, it definitely calmed my nerves. :)

I have the same email; I’m just going to make copies of them and send them soon.

Of course!

So I called the Vassar FinAid Office to confirm, and yes, they need 2008 taxes to estimate our finaid package for when they send us our admission letters in December. They also want the 2009 ones to update and refine the finaid package. So that’s cool.

They also said that these complications/missing files will not delay the admission decision because the financial aid application is separate. And because of the holidays and the inevitable mail delay, we can scan any missing files and email them to the Financial Aid Office with your name, SSN, Vassar ID, and ED1 noted.

:D

I just made copies of everything and am currently writing my name, Vassar ID, etc. on them so that I can drop them off first thing tomorrow morning. I e-mailed Vassar to just make sure that it was alright to drop them off, and the response seemed totally laid back.

…I was secretly hoping that the e-mail implied we’d been accepted and now they’re working on our financial aid stuff. Wishful thinking, I know… lol :)

Omg, seriously. That would be so nice. When I called, I was just like, “They know who I am and they’re totally smiling on the other line knowing that I’m accepted but I don’t know yet but they’re happy for me.”

Ugh ugh ugh, mid-December please be here.

Haha, when I stop by tomorrow I might try to politely ask whether this means anything in terms of acceptance or not. If any facial changes give away the answer, I’ll report back on here as soon as I get home, haha :)

I’m also hoping there’s a chance we might get our letters on the 14th or sooner. Past years have gotten them anywhere from the 11th to 16th from what I’ve seen/read, so there’s a chance…

I got the same email… about a week ago. It was sent to my father; he never checks his email. He thought since the tax info was mentioned on the CSSProfile, he did not have to send in the actual taxes. He sent them out today.

I am pretty sure their need for the actual taxes and W2s is the same as them needing CollegeBoard to send in SAT Scores: they know the information, they just need another source to say the information is right.

I hope that this does not impact my chance of being accepted; this is the second time I have been contacted about something missing.

So, it’s confirmed: there’s no connection between financial aid and acceptance. Even though the guy did hesitate a little bit and smirk, I think it’s just because of the way I asked the question. Oh well.

arose4emily, it won’t affect your chances of being accepted. financial aid is totally separate and everyone seems to be missing the same two things, it can’t be used against us as far as I know.
