Financial aid suspension carry over?

I went to community for 1 year. I was 23 and I have a fear of driving. I relied on my parents to get me there and only took night classes, but during my first semester my dad’s cars brakes went along with a few other things and my brother totaled my mom’s car. We’re poor as is, so this effected me getting to class severely. I got really bad grades first semester but I completed them all. I got the warning letter from Fafsa but was determined to raise my GPA from a 1.00 to a 2.00. I did much better my second semester, my GPA had said I had a 2.37 after completing that semester, so I thought I was okay. Come June 12th, I get a letter saying I’m no longer eligible for Fasfa at that community college because my GPA only raised to a 1.92 to fafsa. Thing is, I applied to Ramapo college of NJ in June and was accepted, they only took 6 credits of mine (which were one A and one B+ for English and another course). I changed my major too. At community it was for Sociology and I changed it to Accounting for Ramapo. I am a NJ resident. On my Ramapo account, I can view my federal award offers and what I’ve already accepted before opening/seeing this letter today from Fafsa. On the Ramapo page, my account reads "Financial Aid Award by Term for the Award Year 2017-2018

So it’s showing that I’ll be receiving federal help (as for now…) can this at all be inaccurate? I’m scared now. I really thought I raised my GPA considerably to that 2.37 only to find out its a 1.92. Will the suspension carry over at a new university with a new major? Can my financial aid award for the year, as it shows above, change at some point or does it seem I’m okay for now? I’m really nervous. I haven’t received the warning about this from Ramapo, the warning was for and comes from the community college I had been attending. What do you guys think?

Generally speaking, the suspension is school-specific. However, every school has its own policies, so you need to find out from Ramapo if your aid will be affected by a suspension from the CC. Probably not, but no guarantees … so make sure you ask Ramapo’s financial aid office.

Also the state aid might be affected. Talk to Ramapo FA office to check which aid you can receive for sure.
