Financial Aid: Who Is the Real Victim?

Admit it, that was a snazzy title.

At any rate, how good is the financial aid at Fordham? As a moderately poor Virginia resident, I'm definitely having some problems affording the $50000 and upwards tuition it takes for students offered housing. I was accepted at Lincoln Center off of the waitlist, and as ecstatic as I am, the fiscal situation is slowly but surely killing me.

Any suggestions and/or comments would be appreciated. :)

I paid 40,000 out of pocket last year. NOT worth it.

(So happy to be transferring.)

^^^So happy for you…best of luck at your new school! :)

@OP

Only you can decide if the COA is worth it but if it means taking out significant loans, I recommend you think long and hard before going into major debt for undergrad at any school. Good luck! :)

no college is worth a burdensome amount of debt. especially if you’re planning on any type of graduate school

The FA at fordham doesnt seem to be good at all. They also seem to have a rep of keeping students waiting for FA that equals nothing or close to nothing. The FA process with them is long and drawn out and then it doesnt even end up being that much. Maybe you have to apply really early? I dont know what it is but honestly their FA dept. is a mess and their lines are always super busy. I remember when I was thinking about going to the school I
would usually wait about 45 min each time to speak to a rep…and the reps were sometimes rude too. This was at LC. Less rude at Rose Hill. Anyways, my EFC with my parents info was pretty low like 7k or something? I dont remember but I got an 18k package after waiting 5 months. Then, when I appealed and was assured theyd do whatever they can to help me go to the school, the appeal came in 1.5 months later literally 2 days before school started and was only given an extra 1k a semester. My EFC I thought was pretty low…but then when I appealed for more and explained my situation how I was an independent student with no parental assistance AT ALL I thought for sure I would get much much more. But alas I did not. They just dont seem to put in a lot of thought into these packages and are just always so rushed and busy they so whatever they can to try and get names off their desk asap. Thats what it seemed like to me atleast. So yea, the FA aint good.
