Has anyone gotten their financial aid estimate/offer from UCI yet? I've gotten my Cal Grant, but I'm still waiting on the rest (UCI grants, loans, work-study, etc.) When I log on to my aid, I see nothing other than the confirmation that they received my forms. Should I wait or should I call their financial aid office?

it says somewhere i forget where but you will get it early april.. im stressfully waiting, caz depending on what I get decides whether i can migrate to Cali or not

i called uci financial aid. they say a letter will be sent to most applicants on april 1 regarding awards etc.

Ah, thanks you two! That was the only thing keeping me from submitting my SIR. Wow, UCI is slow... my friend who is planning on going to LA already got her award notification.

dlo, I share your anxiety. Counting down to April 1st... :(

I am not too knowledgeable with grants and financial aid, but is it easy to get help paying for college? I read in a thread that a student was going to get a combined total of approx $12K to pay for UCSD.

Is it a matter of filling out forms and showing your income? Or is it 'competitive' and cumbersome?

I don't mean to ask "i want free money, how can i get it?" I just didn't know how to word the question

I don't know much about the system either, but I think you just had to fill out the FAFSA so they can determine your financial situation and give you money according to your needs. I've also heard that good grades and test scores play a role in determining how much you get, but I'm not too sure.

And don't worry, we all want free money. ;)

yea its all about about the fafsa. riverside offered me almost a free ride...hopefully irvine does the same but then again its "riverside" you never know hehe. did you all get a letter regarding your cal grants a/b?? does anybody know which one is better?? i heard for cal grant b you get less money first year but more afterwards? i dont know...=P help!

yeah for some reason i got cal grant b and it is only $1,551 for the first year but they say it is worth more than cal grant a "over the life of the grant" ?? i dont really know though..id prefer to have more money now =p

yea does anyone know what that means?? "worth more over the life of the grant"?? how exactly does cal grant b work?

I believe that by the start of your sophmore year the grant will go up to $6,400+ a year where as call grant A stay the same for throughout your four-year. Plus it is better for you to have call grant B because, i think that those who have Cal grant A will not receive UC-grant. This will be a pain if you plan to live on campus. Technically the finaird. off. subtract everything so they can give you their Uc-grant but if you have Cal A then they will give that to those who do not have that much of Cal-Grant> this is what I learned from my sister(senior at UCD). It is also what I saw with my friend finaid. package.

I was confused about that, too. I found out in the Financial Aid forum here that you do get more money in the Cal Grant B program during your 2nd-4th years than you would in the Cal Grant A. And yeah, more benefits. Haha

Oh, and x4bidinluvx, that happened to me too. (Riverside) Hehe.. here's hoping that Irvine will be at least three-quarters as generous!
