Financial Aid

alright, i plan on applying ED to ilr and i have two basic financial aid questions

Question 1-if i get accepted ED and don't recieve enough financial aid-am i required to attend?
Question 2- How much financial aid do you guys think i could get? My mom is a single parent (dad died) with 4 kids (1 in college) and makes about 38K (teacher) a year...

thanks for your help, i love the school, but just dont know if i can afford it

You will in some way be able to afford it especially if you apply ED. Have you visited? Would you like more information on how the admission office could help you get to Cornell? If so PM me.

Hopefully u do get the money since Cornell gives a 100% need package...but just to tell you what I have seen...I actually have seen people drop out of ED because they couldn't afford a school so it is definitely possible. I mean if you can't afford it there are no if, ands, or buts...just a no possibility...so the college can understand that [thats y sometimes ED acceptance numbers don't match up with ED people actually going to the school]. It's not very common at all but it can happen. GL and I hope you get in and get lotsa money!

Don't take my word as fact because it is just my observation.

cornell will meet your need, but be prepared for some of it to be student loans.

You'll get a lot of money... we live on 45k for a family of 5, and we only have to pay about $5000 a year. But then, that's after work study and about $11k/yr in loans. But I mean, I think for me it's definitely going to be worth the money.

They won't hold you to ED if you say their financial aid package isn't good enough. I know someone for whom this was the case, and they just gave her a better package (and still didn't hold her to ED...she was allowed to apply to other schools).

That said, I was very pleased with my aid from Cornell and given your financial information, I think you'd get a lot of aid as well.
