no don't send taxes unless they ask (for fafsa verification)

Alright then. ^_^

I went to an nyu reception yesterday and then my parents and I visited the financial aid office. They're giving me...absolutely nothing. haha, what did I expect?

What? O_O That's terrible.

Not even a scholarship? =/

All schools have their own reasons and policies. All spending is based on priorities. For example, smaller colleges generally have better financial aid because they are small and do not do research. NYU probably spends more on research because it is a research school. Also, NYU has one of the highest salaries in US for professors (not adjunct).

By the way, this is only an example. I do not how NYU budgets their spending.

What time does the office of financial aid close?

I'm sorry, Nickel, I don't know but it's probably posted on the nyu website.

scioncars, I know NYU has it's priorities. I am actually glad that they pay their professors a lot (unlike some schools where the athletic coaches get more than professors). The financial aid office informed me that their aid is need based and so I don't qualify.

They said that if they had any scholarships to offer me, they would have already contacted me. I did visit the nyu website to see if I qualified for any private scholarships they listed. But so many are minority scholarships (and as a south asian, I don't qualify as a minority by their terms, which is ironic because there are so many more african/hispanic americans than south asians). Anyway I'm just looking on the internet for other private scholarships so hopefully I may get a little bit of money.

I was looking and it said five PM, but I thought that was wrong. Argh, I don't get home until 4 PM Central time, so the office is closed by then. DX Say guys, I got into Boston U and NYU GSP, which one do you think is better?

I got into both too nickel.

NYU is ranked higher, but rankings mean nothing.
In my opinion though, nyu is better. I have visited both schools. Just walking around Boston for a few hours, I met 3 kids who when asked, stated that the only reason they chose B.U was because they were rejected from nyu and planned to transfer when possible. I kid you not. That was a big turn off.

Both schools are big, diverse, and have tons of opportunities. NYU I think is a little better academic wise, plus you know in GSP the classes will be really small, and taught by the regular CAS professors so you'll get a great education. At BU, classes are bigger.

Yeah, those were my feelings too. xD I haven't visited either, but I got the feeling the academics were better at NYU. Also, the classes sounded so huge at BU. =/ I kind of wanted to start off small. ^_^'' And NYC seems more exciting. xD I'm just worried about the aid. The FAFSA didn't ask this, but my parents will go from 76k to 54k this year and the office of admissions is closed too soon! I just hope they got my e-mail.

yeah you should probably contact them soon and explain your financial situation. And yeah, BU classes are a little larger. In gsp, there are no lecture halls. Actually nyu is not big on lecture halls to begin with, no matter what college.
GSP classes are really tiny so that's great.
BTW, nickel, did you ever find out about USC? hope I'll see you next year at nyu

I got rejected from USC. =/ This year makes no sense. I understood getting rejected from Yale and Stanford, but I thought I had a shot at USC. =/ Then Columbia waitlists me when I thought I was going to be rejected. I reeeally want to go to NYU. xD

I'm sorry. My friend is currently on the columbia waitlist, and she is really nervous. Although she got into Duke so she may go there.
nyu is awesome and you can always transfer out to columbia or stanford after a year if you want. I might do that with cornell. another great thing about gsp is that classes are so small, professors know you really well and so your likely to get an awesome reccommendation rather than a typical one.

I don't want to transfer. I think it'd be hard for me to get used to a new school. And I really like NYU too. Oh, can I assume molly is a girl too?

Haha, looks like we're in the same boat Nickel. I got stonewalled from the Ivies (wl'd at Columbia as well :P)

Honestly, I don't like the idea of transferring either, but NYU is just so expensive.

Yeah, but I really wanna go. xD Are you going to live in a dorm?

yes, you can assume I'm a girl haha.
what about you? do you have a little accessory in the crotch department, or what? lol.

I don't like the thought of transferring, but as much as I love nyu, I love another school a little more. So I may transfer after a year, depending on how much I enjoy nyu. If I end up loving it, I won't transfer of course. I adjust pretty easily and I know the atmosphere of the other school very well.

I'm commuting btw, what about you?

I live in Dallas. I think it'd be hard to live at home and go to NYU. xD But yes, I'm a girl too. ^_^ I don't like the idea of transferring. =/

haha yea it would be hard to commute from texas everyday lol.
I live on long island, I drove to nyu in 20 mins yesterday but on weekdays it's more like 30 mins. By train it's usually around 30 mins, plus walking from the station to class.
