when and where will our financial aid info be posted?
when is our tution bill due?

financial aid info is posted on jtf.cornell.edu. as for the due date, in the first few weeks of august i believe.

Does it differ significantly from what was stated in the FA letter we received in the Case for Cornell packet?

it varies based upon your parent's latest tax forms (among other things). if there is a significant change in the amount of income, the financial aid package will most likely change accordingly.

and if there is NOT, then probably same? that is great!

it's not posted in my jtf. why?

on jtf it says: Aid year not set up for self-service.

Cornell recently answered my email regarding the due date for the tuition bill to be available for viewing on line on July 19. It said the payment due date is August 8, 2008.

That is such a short amount of time to come up with a great deal of money or to appeal in case they screw you over...

How do we appeal if we don't get what we expect? What's the likelihood of winning an appeal?

I think Cornell's financial aid office deliberately gave such a small window of time in order to minimize appeals lol.

You can appeal even after paying your bill!

You should get what you got last year unless there was a change in your family's financial situation over the past year.

Well I'm nervous because my family made about an extra 5k this year... In April of last year, because I got into two other Ivies, I managed to squeak extra money out of Cornell in an additional grant through an appeal grant. But I am afraid my family's extra income gives them an excuse to take that extra money they initially gave me away... Has anyone had any experience with a situation like this??

How do you appeal? What do you do exactly?
I thought the price of Cornell is going down since last year... since they took away Loans...
right?

The STUDENT LOANS will become mostly grants...other things won't change tho (such as how much ur rents owe)

which are student loans?

Cornell University loans, Federal Direct loans, etc. Tuition, on the other hand, actually went up, as did other costs like housing.

the cost of attending cornell has risen overall especially for non-NY residents...

financial aid packages consist of student contribution (summer workings and savings), parent contribution (how much your parents are worth), grants from cornell and loans (if above 60k income/worth)...

Does anybody have experience with Cornell adjusting appeal grants? Yes? No?

What do students usually appeal for?

they might appeal for a new income situation (father was laid off) or a new dependent came into the family...

many reasons...

financial aid can adjust your finaid for many other reasons you usually dont appeal for like winter boots/jacket if you're from the south, a computer if u dont have one, student insurance if you dont have it with parents, increase in budget necessary for living arrangements...
