Financial aid?

It is unfortunate. I can see how the situation is having kind of the opposite effect from that of a likely letter: the longer one goes into April without knowing financial aid, the less connected one feels to the school. It’s kind of a psychological self-defense that kicks in even when you’re trying to keep your mind open and undecided!

mine’s still not up yet either…

None for me.

this is getting bad now. still none for me either.

i understand the huge amount of work they have, but this is putting so much stress on me, just waiting and waiting. everyone I know basically has decided on where they’re going, and we’re waiting for FA :(

sadness.

Yeah, the delay really isn’t good for applicants or the school… If I were admissions, I’d be pretty upset. People like to know where they’re going to school, and the longer you go without financial notification, the more likely you are to just choose somewhere else.

I got mine today. All loans and work study, and the total amount doesn’t even meet my FAFSA EFC (and I turned it in well before the deadline). I officially give up on UNC’s Financial Aid department.

I did our taxes before the end of January, and then filled out the FAFSA the next day. When I called NC to ask about financial aid, the lady was kind of condescending and said they didn’t receive our FAFSA information until March 20th. All of the other seven colleges had it in February. My D did get her “award” last week, but it wasn’t much and she has eliminated UNC as it will be too expensive. I feel sorry for everyone still waiting. Good luck to all, I hope you get a generous award very soon!

None for me today.

i got mine, but i got zero aid. just the academic award i already had

just checked mine. Nothing yet but…

At least my status changed from inquiry access denied to application for aid in progress.

I am sorry that the financial aid office is taking so long to process everyone’s aid applications. UNC-Chapel Hill has reconfigured all of its back end computing systems this year (it’s a huge ordeal, costing the university nearly $90 million), but it is still not acceptable to keep all of you waiting.

That’s strange. Does your family have assets or something else that showed up in the CSS/PROFILE but not on the FAFSA?

Not that I know of…

None for my daughter today either. From the comments on here, it doesn’t sound as if there’s much reason to hope for a very doable aid package anyway. Still – it would be nice to know for sure so that she could focus on her other college options.

I finally got a notification today, but it was to tell me I was missing 1 form (the ‘missing’ item from the to do list just showed up today). I sent it right away overnight, but it still is frustrating they waited until mid April (when I sent in all my stuff in late January) to tell me I was missing something.

Finally got my FA. All loans. Declined.

How difficult would be it be to get UNC to up their offer to match another schools if the difference is like 2 or 3K?

Fax them what you have been offered if it is a peer school. The worst that can happen is that they say no. You’ll never know if you don’t ask.

I can’t even choose a year as there is no box or link! it just says no year is chosen!

oh my gosh…Im so scared. I havent gotten my aid yet. im OOS, and need aid to go there. Im so scared they arent going to have any money left :(( I cant get just loans, and wont have time for work study.
SOS!

Won’t have time for WS? You realize WS is only like 10 to 12 hours a week, right?
