Financial Aid

If your parents income is low enough, I’m sure you’ll still get some. How late did you apply? I applied jan 20 something.

Wow… they are generous. I got 9988

my dad was laid off several years ago, so none of my parents are working.
however, he made a lot of savings before his “retirement” and he is earning some money from stocks(probably losing more :stuck_out_tongue: ).
i did check off for the Federal Work Study Program on fafsa and it was just listed under awards.
if i’m getting paid 1000 per quarter, i feel like i have to work a lot…cuz i want to focus on my studies and my parents won’t let me work a lot too.

I didn’t get anything. Pretty frustrating that I’m going to have to take out loans to go to a state school.

Hmmm I still haven’t received an email and on my MyUW page it still says “2009-2010 School Year” for the financial aid page, which of course I am not eligible for. Anyone else in my boat? All of my classmates seem to have their financial aid statements.

You guys!!! I JUST realized that on my financial aid, I put that I was going to live with my parents (back in January). My parents decided it was best if I lived in a dorm… But I didn’t change that on my fafsa… So now yesterday I got my fafsa money which was 9k out of 16k. Because I didn’t put that I was gonna live in the dorm.

Thats why I was wondering because all of my other friends recieved way more money than I did which wasn’t right…

But my dad told me to accept the financial aid thing yesterday & so I did.

**What should I do? Should I call financial aid office up and ask them??
**And… IS IT TOO LATE for them to even fix my fafsa when I already accepted??

you should definitely call them about the changes.
i also made some errors on my fafsa and i turned in it like a week ago, i think, and uw said that was ok.

wait so it wasnt considered late?

i turned mine in about a week ago as well

…all of my offer are loans. No grants. What the heck!!!

ross25, me too! I was so psyched when i saw the digits but after seeing that they were ALL in the forms of loans, it wasn’t that relieving or satisfying…

Okay, I called them and they changed my aid. I will receive 15,084. But how do you determine if its grants or loans??

Scroll to the way bottom of the financial aid offer page and under “total aid offered,” it should show what forms (grants, loans, work study, etc) and the division payments.

I also don’t understand why my parents have to take out a $10,000 loan on top of having to pay like $7,000 EFC. Why can’t it all just be student loans?? I don’t want them to be $40,000 in debt on my behalf–that’s ridiculous.

Can’t be agreeing more with you at this moment. Also, I’ve indicated work study on my FAFSA app but they didn’t assign me separate money for work study so I’ve emailed them. Hopefully, things will change-although I think this is just my high hope.

All I can see is loans from fed. government and stuff. So it isn’t grants right? I also put work study on my financial aid but I don’t see it anywhere on my financial aid status page. .____." This sucks. My friend said that on the page, it should also say your a member of Husky Promise. Does this say that to you guys as well? I don’t see it on my page…

Yeah, this really sucks… There is no indication of Husky Promise on my financial aid offer either…

It says I qualify for the Husky Promisee… and 7,400 in grants, 5,700 in loans. total aid given was 19,000 and the rest my parents…But no work study!!

Hey at least you weren’t awarded all in the form of loans, you’ve got the Husky Promise and grants.

Total aid: $22,200
Includes $7,000 loans
Husky Promise, but doesn’t cover room/board…

Hm. I’m hoping my dream schools accept me. That way, I won’t have to complain about taking out loans and such–I actually won’t mind. But it looks like I’m either UW or WSU bound. Ugh
