Hello, I am currently a senior in high school and applying to colleges. Obviously, I know where I'm applying, for the most part, but I'm trying to find one more reach school that fits me. I'm applying to Tufts, Villanova, Purdue, Michigan, Maryland, Delaware, Rutgers, Syracuse, Drexel, and Umass/Amherst.

I live in New Jersey and I'm looking for a school with (in order of importance):
-A strong engineering program
-Well-respected school
-Decent social life
-not terribly far (California, Texas)
-Nice campus/location
-higher than 20% acceptance rate
-doesn't require interviews (may be too late for them)

More about me:
3.9 GPA
2100 SATs, 800 SAT math
took math II and chem SATs in December
All honors and AP classes
Junior Year: AP History II, AP Bio, AP Eng
Senior: AP Eng, AP French V, AP Calc A/B

-Band President, clarinet section leader since sophomore year, member of jazz ensemble for sax, wind ensemble for clarinet, and chamber choir for voice
-Peer Leader
-member of NHS and music honor society
-working at Au Bon Pain for two years
-volunteer work at after school program during sophomore year, voluntary tutoring senior year

-Top scoring math league competitor
-secretary of french club

Any matches for schools in my range would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well I’ve actually recently been considering Carnegie Mellon but I’m unsure about the social life, its hard to know which rumors to believe. What do you think? And I don’t really want to go to school in georgia. Any other suggestions?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I’ve been looking into some of these schools actually (such as northwestern). I need to do some more research but if anyone has any more suggestions or any comments about the previously mentioned schools let me know. Thanks!

Franklin W. Olin (MA) but you must participate in their Candidates Weekend in order to be part of the pool from which applicants are selected for admission.

yes mom2collegekids I looked it up and you’re right, Emory doesn’t have engineering but instead offers a dual degree program with engineering at Georgia Tech. And as for Georgia Tech itself, it’s not exactly what I’m looking for since the male to female ratio is 7:3. Budget wise, I’m not sure what my parents are willing to pay. Our plan is I will basically just apply to schools to see where I get in and how much money I am offered, but I think if I got into a really prestigious school my parents would be able to find a way to make it work.

I had a reason for not applying to bucknell (which I can’t remember) but I’m going to read about it some more. Also I never really considered Lehigh, not really sure why, but it’s good that you suggested it ricegal.

And as for the UMich tuition, I really don’t know if my parents would pay that much, or how much they would pay for any school. As I said, we’re going to see where I get accepted and make a decision based on money offers.

Thanks for the suggestions they are all very helpful!
