first day of school: what're you wearing?

No, but I felt like it was implied.

It’s okay though, I really don’t care either way.

^ It wasn’t implied. At all.

The way to avoid being judged is to not hang around people who judge you by your looks.
That is what I said, and it is what I meant.

I am a pretty blunt person. I mean what I say and say what I mean.

Oy! Enough fighting guys! Lets just enjoy a nice conversation…

^ Hey, another Jew :)! Lol

(Don’t take that as offensive. I am Jewish and “Oy” is one of my favorite… phrases?)

Sigh…although I guess I enjoy shopping I’m jealous of the school uniforms! Do you guys have the blazers and the skirts which are imo cute (don’t mock! think Gilmore Girls!) or the khakis and polos? Our school was thinking about instituting uniforms but they would have been the boing khaki and polo kind.

Okay, I am wearing a white beaded shirt with a kind of lacy cream colored sweater, dark blue jeans, and idk about shoes yet.

School starts this Thursday on my birthday :)

Ew, you guys shop at J. Crew? Why not at places that are, er I don’t know, less preppy and nerdy? (unless it’s for uniforms)

Gray Cardigan (American Apparel)
Loose Knit Tank or Cami (PacSun)
Leather Waist Belt (Forever21)
Dark Denim Skinny Jeans (Forever 21)…or maybe some Woven Shorts if it’s too hot :open_mouth:
Black Flats (Forever21)…or maybe Gladiator Sandals (Parallel) or some Leather Hollister Flip Flops
Small Leather Crossbody Bag (Urban Outfitters)

I love the vintage style.

Oy romanigypsyeyes, that is one of my favorite expressions (less descriptive than phrase and therefore harder to use incorrectly, but I suppose phrase would work also) too! Though, sadly, I am not Jewish. I just enjoy using the expression “Oy”.

On second thought, perhaps rosco was a pirate. Do pirates say Oy or am I not up on my pirate lingo?

Oxymoron anyone?

@ Truffliepuff, jk I like cardigans too and they are the thing. But you can buy cardigans at J. Crew. In fact, many cardigans. In many shades. You may be missing out.

^ Unless it’s worn in another way - then it isn’t considered preppy. Like so: http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&category_name=sw_cardigans&product_id=2077146783&Page=1</a></p>

No. I hate J. Crew.

No I’m not a pirate, nor Jewish. However I do use Yiddish “expressions” (?) quite often. I blame it on my parents (We’re from Chicago, I don’t know if that has anything to do with it…)

You’re not mad?

Perhaps you don’t know the whole story TRUFFLIEPUFF. I do shop at Hollister, A&F, and other less “preppy and nerdy” stores as well as J. Crew.
Just because it isn’t your personal style doesn’t mean others don’t like and enjoy it.

^^gasp well i thought you knew! shockingly, some people like the preppy look. even more bizarre, most people consider it fashionable to a degree. perhaps the weirdest thing is that it’s in in some schools, like mine. crazy, right?

Hmm first day of school I will probably wear my magenta polo shirt and probably black pants. We take the class picture of the entire grade so I wanna stand out haha

Catholic school with funky uniform colors FTW

Er, it’s, in a word, and east coast thing, perhaps?

Jeans and either a semi-formal shirt or a t-shirt.

Polo + jeans

^^^^ I’m guessing you don’t live anywhere near the South like in California, Florida, and the like? Here in Socal, you get beat up or socially excluded for dressing like a prep (also labelled nerd, geek, dork, etc.) I mean, why would you dress boring at school, a place that is already boring enough? :stuck_out_tongue: And it’s just school, no need to look so formal

Possibly, but I do live in Texas. I guess I’m not the norm for here… Ah well, that’s just my personality. :)

@ Truffliepuff’s post many comments ago (I took too long to respond!)…Exactly. A sweater from J. Crew could be worn in exactly the same way…it depends on what you pair it with. So don’t dis. I’ve never even been inside a J. Crew store, but I still respect the fact that people can wear J. Crew without getting called nerdy (preppy I don’t think is that insulting.) I didn’t really intend to argue with you :), I just that you wearing a cardigan was ironic considering your apparent strong moral repulsion to J. Crew

On a lighter note: Haha ignore the fact that she’s wearing no pants and this Forever 21 outfit is very preppy http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&category_name=sw_cardigans&product_id=2000003295&Page=1</a>

Also, thank you Truffliepuff now I am browsing the Forever 21 website instead of working on my AP Bio :)

^^^i go to prep school. where preppy is in style and you stand out if you’re wearing, say, hollister. personally, i think “preppy” is a lot more sophisticated and looks much more put-together than average “teen” clothing. plus i don’t have to get new stuff when i get older, barring major vertical or horizontal growth.

Darn. Being a pirate would be a sweet college admission hook. Definitely an URM

I found that amusing  I’m still hoping for the whole vertical growth thing to kick in…
