First Generation Question

Does anyone know what Northwestern's definition of "first generation" college student is? It varies at other universities from family members completing no college at all, to no one obtaining a four year degree. The only person in my family to get a degree is my dad (2 year degree), so I wanted to know if I would qualify. Also, does NU even consider this in the admissions process (if the answer is "no" then I guess the first question is irrelevant).

Thanks in advance!

You should email NU admissions

Even if the answer is no the question is irrelevant…

Think about it. You can only answer by reporting the facts - you’re not going to change reality, regardless of how NU or other college of choice interprets the facts. The very definition of irrelevant.

So, don’t sweat the small stuff.Do the best you can and let the chips fall where they may. Life goes on and you will find a college that fits. Now that’s relevant!
