<p>I recently submitted my UC application (in fact, just the other day) and while there's little I can do about it now, I've been particularly concerned about a specific portion of the application I filled out. To be more specific, in the Scholarship portion of the application there was a scholarship open for those who were the first in their family to attend college. </p>
<p>Earlier in the application, in the Family Data: Parents' Highest Education, I had placed my father as a "High School Graduate" (as he had only entered the military after graduating from high school) and my mother as having attended "Some College/University" (as she had graduated from some college in South Korea before immigrating here, but did not receive a degree; the way colleges work in South Korea is different than in America). The information I had provided earlier would appear to contradict me applying myself for the "First Family Member To Attend College", but I did so regardless due to the following rationale:</p>
<ul>
<li>My parents were immigrants from South Korea; thus making me part of the first generation in my family to be born in America and the first in my family to enter college in America.</li>
<li>The college my mother attended was a two-year college (she's unsure if it can be defined as a community college) and while she graduated, she did not earn a degree whatsoever.</li>
<li>The college my mother attended was in South Korea, not in America.</li>
</ul>
<p>Is my logic sound? Also, is it possible that the UC Admissions Department consider my application "inaccurate" and therefore void my application entirely (I unfortunately did not describe my situation in the Additional Comments section provided at the end of the application)? I don't mind not being considered for that certain scholarship, but I'm concerned that voiding my application could be a potential outcome.</p>
<p>Additionally, how should I address this situation in future applications? I currently plan to finish up my USC application this weekend, and they too ask a similar question in their application:</p>
<p>Are you the first generation in your family to attend college?</p>
<p>Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm losing hair like crazy over here. :(</p>
