I’ve applied early to Duke and they require me to send in my first quarter grades through the Common Application. However, I got a ‘C’ first quarter in one of my classes and I’m certain I’ll be rejected now. In addition I don’t want my counselor to submit my first quarter grades through Common Application because I don’t want the rest of the colleges I’ve applied Early Action to to see that ‘C’. The rest of the colleges don’t require first quarter grades–they only require semester one grades, which are the only ones I will want them to see.
Is there anyway I can avoid having the rest of the colleges see my first quarter grades? Is there any other way I can send in the first quarter grades to just Duke alone? I’m binded by the ED agreement with Duke to continue onward with the requirements, but I don’t want that to interfere with other colleges views of me. Any help is very much appreciated! : )
Why not just send them the grades in an update email? I know this isn’t what they asked for - but you will have provided the information without poisoning the well at all the other schools, which is probably more important in the long run, since getting into Duke is a long shot in the best of circumstances. (Unless there is some way to submit on the Common App without having to share them with everyone? Someone else can chime in on this.)
You need to talk to your GC about options they are willing to use. They are the ones that send the grades, not you. I would think an E-Mail would work.
OP…Perhaps your counselor can email Duke the grades. Also, you may want your counselor to send an explanations for the C. If you were trending upwards to a B and had a really poor first exam, it would demonstrate your resilience in not dropping the class and working to improve. Perhaps other issues contributed to the C grade. Resilience is a great quality. Good luck to you.
