I am incredibly interested in applying to High Point University next fall. I have visited quite a few times, and I know a lot of current (or about to be current) students. I have heard that High Point U does a FANTASTIC job of helping incoming student assimilate to the HPU culture and life on campus. I have heard they provide an entire agenda of activities/events/social mixers to help the new students get comfortable on campus with their new classmates. I was wondering if any current students, or current students' family members on here had any insight or specific information about this incredible experience at HPU that takes place upon campus arrival in the fall. I know I still have quite some time before I move in (hopefully into HPU) but I have heard such good things and I couldn't help but ask. Thanks!

floridian, this is absolutely true. I always said that there was no time to get homesick within those first few weeks because you simply didn’t have any time. It really does make a difference. New students receive a schedule of all different events. I remember we did a massive ice-breaker in the basketball arena, where the entire grade would interact with each other. I met so many people, most of whom I am friends with today. They really do an incredible job of helping you get comfortable. It was certainly a week and a half of my life I will never forget.

The first week at HPU is a ton of fun! They have events every night for all students, so I was able to meet other freshmen as well as upperclassmen at events like the hypnotist and the luau. But it also continues throughout the year with intramurals or club sports and other organizations hosting events. Good Luck with your decision!

The first week at HPU for freshman is a great introduction to college and to the school itself. High Point Universitys’ orientation is a week full of different activities for students including a luau at the pool, play fair, Bingo, outdoor movie, hypnotist, Derby Day, and athletic events there is even fire works after the soccer game to welcome the freshman! I have been on the orientation crew for the past three years and its a great way for students to make new friends and help the transition to college. Incoming freshman are also assigned a Peer Mentor which will meet with them multiple times during the first week to assist in anything the student might need during the transition. There is also an activities fair where all clubs, organizations, and departments come and students have an opportunity to see what they might want to get involved in. As a senior I suggest that students take the time and join different clubs and organizations that they might be interested and get involved!

My son is now going into his Junior year. He had some issues in his very 1st semester and the personnel at the school were a huge help. Since then he has made some friends that he will have for the rest of his life. I saw something in the school and the school has brought out the best in my son. Good luck.
