I finally decided to register here after reading it a bunch of times, and i do have a question :) As I'm going to McGill (Molson Hall) in ... 16 days (!!) and I have registered for my courses, I'm still wondering about my AP European History I took. My advisor said, and i quote:

"If you check your Minerva record, you will note that the Admissions, Recruitment and Registrars Office (ARR) has granted you 6 advanced credits for your AP in European History. The ARR has also granted you exemption from HIST 1XX, which represents exemption from a generic or non-specific history course. This means that you will only need 114 credits at McGill in order to complete the total of 120 credits required for your B.A. degree. However, you can still take a normal course load of 15 credits during the fall 2005 and winter 2006 terms"

So my question is what is HIST 1XX? I'm signed up for HIST 214 and HIST 215 ... so that's confusing. As well, if I have the credits should i use them? Right now I'm not but I'm definitely wondering if it would be beneficial to. My schedule is a little weird ... four lectures MWF and one TR

Hist 1XX does not represent an actual course. All you got was 6 credits of history, no actual exemptions of classes. All in all, just think of them of 6 free credits that don't exempt you from anything except during your four years at mcgill you can have 4 classes (12 credits) per semester twice.

You don't have a choice. They're already used.

Yes, I realize how confusing this could be. I hope you understand. If not, feel free to ask additional questions.

Basically, yes. You've been exempted from two blank courses. But if you want to look at it that way, you're 'forced' to take two less courses over the course of your four years.

i am in same situation. i got credits for HIST 1xx too. that means that this semester my credit load is reduced from 18 to 15 right? (being exempt from a Humanities 3 credit class)

im not sure ... did you do an AP? See, for AP European I get six credits ... so maybe you do as well. I think what I'll probably end up doing is after I meet with my advisor see what courses that I'm signed up for that i don't need ... and if I hate them I'll just drop them. Let me know if you figure out your credit exemption

I've been trying to figure mine out, exept my advisor has still not responded yet, it's realyl upsetting cause every time I've tried to e-mail McGill, I never get a response.

yea i know!! it's rather frustrating. Although I do get a response she isn't very clear and she makes me feel like I'm wasting her time ... oh well, no matter. We do have a few days to juggle courses around after they start and we do get to meet our advisors so ask her then perhaps?

Try e-mailing the individual professors or members of the faculty in the departments you're interested in. I'm still waiting on 12 credits for AP but McGill doesn't have my AP info yet. I think a lot of the advisors are REALLY busy now.
