To get an idea of what science in college is like, what would be a good course to take freshman year to get a picture of what the pre-med course are like? I was thinking an intro to bio class or intro to chem class which seem to be the prereq to all the other courses. also how many science course should i take in 1 semester w/o overload? thanks 4 ur input.

i'm planning on taking bio and chem the first semester

at my school, many freshman pre meds take:
intro chem with lab
calculus
intro physics with lab

then they take orgo and bio and english as sophomores

Yikes, Jenskate, that seems a little strenuous. I'm not planning on taking Physics with ANY other science.... but maybe its just harder for me. I plan on doubling up Chem and Biology. But for anyone taking Physics in college, who has not taken Calculus, (Im in BC so Im not gonna worry about this) definitely should take it first or along with it. Trust me, it helps alot.

From what I hear, at my school at least, bio lab is more work than physics lab, which is why i decided not to take bio with orgo. Instead of what I posted as the normal schedule I took/am taking:

Freshman year:
English
Chem w/ lab
Bio lab (AP'ed out of bio lecture and calculus)

Sophomore year:
Physics w/lab
Orgo w/lab

I took:
Intro bio (2 sem)
Intro bio lab (2 sem)
Gen Chem w/ lab (2 sem)
English
Multivariable Calculus (1 sem)
Linear Algebra (1 sem)
my freshman year

I took/am taking:
Organic Chem (2 sem)
Organic Chem lab (1 sem)
Intro physics (2 sem)

so I should be done with premed requirements by the end of my sophomore year.

This is how I'm planning it:

Freshman:
Gen Chem (2 sem. with Lab)
Intro Bio (1 sem. with Lab)
Writing

Sophomore:
Org Chem (2 sem. with Lab)
Cell Bio (1 or 2 sem., recommended by my school for MCAT prep)

Junior:
Intro Physics (2 sem. with Lab)
Adv. Bio/Biochem (1 sem. with Lab)

Take MCAT spring of Junior year.

Some schools may require me to take another semester of English.
Also note that I have Calc BC credit, which most med schools that require math/calc accept.
