Fisher School of Accounting

What is everyone's opinion on the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida, and the undergraduate business school in general? I know US News has the accounting program ranked 15th, and the 2007 Public Accounting Report has the program ranked 14th. Thanks for your time.

It's the same as all of the other accounting schools... I don't know how many AACSB schools there are, probably over 300...

Now for finance, yeah, but you will probably never step into an IB, unless you know someone. You will probably be placed in ATL, Tallahassee, Miami, etc. Whatever is around Gainesville...

I go to UF and I have 2 years of accounting left.

The accounting program is really challenging and the Big 4 recruit heavily from UF so that is all that matters. The teachers are of good quality once you get past introductory classes. Accounting is by far the most difficult business major at UF. If you want to become an accountant, then the best route is to apply for the 3/2 program which will satisfy all the requirements to sit for the CPA exam.

As for finance, at the undergraduate level, even with good grades, you will still probably just become a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch (a glorified salesman/stockbroker). Not that there is anything wrong with that, but you have about zero chance at doing anything big in finance if you have just a bachelors degree in finance.

The Masters of Science if Finance program is good for investment banking and trading. It is a graduate program so the classes are significantly more difficult than anything you would see as an undergrad in finance. The program has a good track record for sending graduates to bulge bracket and middle market banks.

Hope that helps.
