Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

YAY - https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/coronavirus/coronavirus-in-colorado-latest-covid-19-updates-from-june-2-2020 “…The order also mandates everyone to wear a mask or face covering while out in public, unless you’re exercising…”

Today’s workout was several sets of bench press and also inverted presses for strength. Core work was 30 toes-to-bar and 30 glute ham raises.

And HIIT was a rowing program (9 intervals, 1:40 all out row, 0:20 rest) on the C2, which resulted in a total of roughly a 4K row. There was a 2 min rest after interval 5.

Happy National/Global Running Day!

Wasn’t planning to run today but I’ve done this every year for the last 7 so out I went. Nearly 3 and then some walking to cool down.

@orangepurple YES! It sounds as if we have very similar stories. I know my own kids (one is naturally coordinated, the other greatly helped by OT) had much different experiences in P.E. than I did.

This last week just kicked my butt. It’s been getting hotter (not a surprise in SW Florida, but still a bummer) but recently the humidity has been higher too. The combination is brutal and last week I was just dragging all week. This week has been a little better. Did the hill this morning then back to my favorite functional fitness class; the instructor is trying it by limiting it to 9 people and having taped off areas to separate everybody. It was great to see my friends again.

@milee30 I’m sure you know this very well, but as the early season high humidity and heat kicks in, it is VERY easy to get dehydrated. Really push the fluids. Just a little bit of dehydration can make you really draggy. I fall into this trap a lot.

4.3 miles this morning. Hope I can get another mile in later today. Our heat is back.

With this crowd, I think you should be a bit more specific. :lol:

I’ve been upping my consumption of iced coffee! :slight_smile: :wink:

Dehydration is no joke though.

LOL @sushiritto With my increased wine consumption during this pandemic and stay at home stuff, I need to remind myself to add water to my hydration!

x

Right?!

Read that as “Go drink a nice cold summer sour! “

:slight_smile:

I echo what others have said up thread about running being something that uncoordinated people can do with some success. I can - and have - tripped while practically standing still. A little embarrassing to explain the scratches on my knee. But I’ve never fallen down during a run! I’ve been feeling a little cranky: WFH is becoming a drag and I really miss spending time with my friends and family and having places to go and things to do. So I decided to train for a half marathon (I’ve done 8 in the last 5 years) and run a virtual one. I’m thinking that having a quantifiable goal and something achievable to work towards might be fun. So increasing my weekend long run (I’m up to 6 now, and will do 7 this weekend) and will be more conscious of healthy eating, especially making sure I have enough protein in my vegetarian diet. You all continue to inspire me!

Which virtual race did you pick @cooker ? I’m signed up for the SeaWheeze Luluemon half (virtual) in August. I did it last year and had to do my half on a really hot Tennessee day.

I did about 2.5 hours of mostly riding my bike but also going for a 2 plus mile walk with a friend. Then friend texted me saying her thermometer said it was 95 degrees.
So, I decided to hydrate with frozen sea breezes (heavy on the ice and juice, lighter on the alcohol, because it’s not even 5:00 yet). We are “celebrating” because my husband is retirement eligible tomorrow. I have been retirement eligible, but told my husband I’d work at least until he’s retirement eligible. Given the stock market lately, I also said I couldn’t retire til the DOW was over 26K. Well, as of tomorrow I will have met all conditions I set for myself. Now I’m “just one bad day” away from retirement.
I have been asked to hold a friend accountable, and I nagged her into riding her bike today also. She road over an hour so I get to claim credit for her too :slight_smile:

@1214mom

Big news about retirement! Congrats!

Isn’t that what Barry Bonds’ trainer used to say? :joy:

4.1 humid miles. Done!

Ugh. Add me to the humidity haters. My body does not like it no matter how much fluid I drink. I easily drink 1.5 gallons a day. In the days when I ran longer and had access to a scale, I would drink 12 oz before my run (at 5am), 28 oz during a 90 min run, and 12-24 ounces after - and I would STILL be down 7 pounds. Of course, a couple of hours later, my body would rebound and swell like a stuffed sausage. No combo of fluid, electrolyte, salt, etc. has seemed to improve this. And day after day, month after month, and I just get weaker and more unhappy as it goes on.

this week, my runs have stunk. I haven’t minded TOO much, because I’m hoping a lot of it is just dead legs. It’s weird. My legs are constantly dead, I’m tired and achy and I don’t feel stronger. But then I did my 30 min core video - one that’s a killer usually - and it wasn’t hard. And even with dead legs, my body feels straighter. So I am hoping once the program ends on Saturday and I take a VERY easy and light week that I’ll bounce back well.

It’s been a very stressful weak. I’ve alternated between a high level of anxiety and being 1 step away from jumping out a window. ugh. Breathe…

Oh yeah - and I almost fell while running yesterday. I tripped and did the big stumble, arms waving deal. I didn’t fall but thought I might have strained a glute. After a few min it seemed OK. and yeah - totally uncoordinated am I. I trip all the time walking on flat ground. My family just rolls their eyes. When I was little my mom said that watching me run reminded her of her Dad’s cow with a broken hip. A natural I am not.

@ClassicMom98

Are you sleeping well?

The stress and high humidity would do me in and I’d see it reflected in my training log.

I’m swollen and achy from the heat this week.

Northern Illinois heat wimp here!

As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t drink alcohol.

Ya, but he had to use the “cream and the clear” too, in order to mask the steroids. Lifelong SF Giants fan here. :smiley:

@ClassicMom98 You drink 192 ounces of water or are you including juices, coffee, nutritional drinks, wine, beer, etc.? :grimace: I thought I drink a lot of water.

@Midwest67 in general, yes. The last few nights, I’ve slept through the night even. That’s rare for me, not needing a bathroom break or two. I have also been in a night sweat cycle for the last few weeks, but that’s nothing new over the last 7-10 years. Come on menopause!
