Checking in: my back necessitated walking > running for a few days, but I’m back running for an hour today. (So grateful that my back got better with movement instead of flared with it.) I really think it just didn’t like how much I was sitting.
I’m curious about barbells now. I’ve no room for them at home, but maybe I can consider a gym (ugh) when things are more opened up? For now, hand weights will have to do.
Barbells really are not that onerous, they are just a pole with weights added on, you can dismantle and store as part of your workout routine (compound movements ! LOL). You won't be throwing them around like TV people. If you can roll out a yoga mat, you have room for a barbell workout.
I decided to go a little off-program today. High 80’s today, so I decided to run a mile to the outdoor pull-up bar and spent a while doing muscleups, dips and toes-to-bar. At the midpoint, I ran up a nearby long VERY steep hill and then back to the bar for a couple more sets. And ran the mile back home.
@sushiritto you’re in the SF area, no? If so, yep… you’ve got VERY steep hills!
Just a power walk to the gym and back. Gym opened up yesterday at 7am. Today was the first day at 5am. 30% capacity. I mostly wanted to see how many people were there and say hi to anyone in the parking lot. I’d like to stay out until after we move older S in 3 weeks. It wasn’t crowded or dead for that time of day.
Then I did my fit test. I was surprised that i did not improve on the burpees at all. I feel much better at them. Oh well, I improved in everything else and I didn’t feel very fit or strong today. 78* and 100% humidity does that to me. Feel like I’m breathing through a straw. I did 65 push-ups (+15), 17 pull-ups (+2). 25 burpees in 1:00 (+0), 6:00 plank (+1:00), 4:00 wall sit (+1:00), standing balance - right leg 4:00 (+11:30), left leg 4:00 (+1:00) The pessimist in me just thinks I didn’t try hard enough the first time. But I do feel much more stable on 1 leg.
That sounds pretty impressive to me, @ClassicMom98
I’ve run those SF hills before. Killer! I’ve run 3 Big Sur marathons, and one of them I got to train for 5 weeks in SF (from downtown) while I was in a trial. Helped me be more ready for the hills than training at home (at the time) in Dallas.
4.2 extremely warm and humid miles this morning. Soaked when I got home.
I didn’t exercise much yesterday, because I worked and then it was just too darn hot and humid.
Today i did a (slow) 12 mile or so bike ride with a friend. Then I came home and rode for another hour around my neighborhood. I think tomorrow will be rainy, so wanted to do extra today. Summer has definitely arrived. It’s very warm and humid here.
5 mile treadmill run this morning. It was just too hot and humid outside.
Tomorrow is sunrise yoga and then I need to go into the office for a few hours (I do this once a week). It will be a busy day with meetings, etc. but I will get my mile in for the RW streak sometime. I have an upper endoscopy on Friday morning, so I will have to get a short run in before that (on no coffee- I will be crabby, just sayin’).
@ClassicMom98 I’m not located in SF proper any longer. I’m down the Peninsula. But the hills are still gargantuan. This particular hill is straight up with no leveling off until the top. At the top is a gorgeous view of the Bay and the burbs.
I had to break twice, but it’s my first attempt.
I looked back pages and pages and couldn’t find my last day off. So a rest day today.
I took a half day vacation to enjoy the awesome weather (since things were mellow at work and helping mo). I did a sloooow 4k run, plus some walking and gardening. It’s not much, but I’m still delighted.
Man, I’m not going to miss running in a mask (not required, but the lake trail area was soooo busy it seemed the right thing to do - about 1/3 of the time I felt at ease taking it off).
Mid 80’s here, but I got out there in the gym early.
I had a very good day with my strength portions, deadlifts and bench press. I first established a 5-rep max for each and then continued and approached my 1-rep max. In between sets of the bench press, I did 50 GHD sit-ups.
The HIIT was 17 minutes, including two 1-minute rest periods, combining thrusters, power cleans, DB hops, push presses and burpees.
Still gorgeous weather here. 4.6 miles this morning. My legs are really tired. This running across Tennessee thing is tough! Wore the Altra Torin Plush shoes this morning. I’m really liking my assortment of shoes right now. I don’t have many that elicit a sigh and a “well, I better put some miles on THESE things today” from me in the morning.
Got in close to two hours of biking with a friend this morning, but she’s pretty slow so we only covered maybe 17 miles. Part of that was “off-road,” but still slow.
It’s likely all I will get to today.
I am riding with her to encourage her to go as much as to get exercise.
I left my bike on the car, with the hope that I can drag husband off somewhere tomorrow morning.
No and yes. Growing up I tried everything because my mom always wanted to but wasn’t allowed in her day. I ranged from really bad (tennis, gymnastics, soccer) to ok (softball, basketball) to good (swimming). I probably could have walked on at many colleges, possibly D1. But I was so burnt out of swimming, I didn’t want to set foot in a pool ever again. And no colleges were knocking on my door with $$$. I still hate the water, but I can still swim well. I swam a bit when I wanted to do a triathlon and also competed with the Y team when my kids were little. I qualified for Y Nats but didn’t go. ($$$) to be fair, those cuts weren’t that hard compared to USA Times. But I was happy since I only swam 30 min 2xweek by myself.
I’ve just been walking, a little super slow jogging and yoga this week. I’m a bit disappointed I don’t feel better. Hopefully by Monday I’ll perk up.
Got 2 miles in on the treadmill this morning, before my medical procedure. Plans to run again with my friends tomorrow morning. The planned run is twice around a loop of about 4-4.5 miles. If I feel a little iffy, I will just go one loop.
