Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

@MomofWildChild

How early do you typically get going for your a.m. run?

I’m currently sitting at my desk with a mask on waiting to eat my snack. A departmental co-worker came in and was talking to the guy across the way for 30 min unmaksed. That’s the second person who was here doing that in the last hour. I’m hoping if I wait 15-20 min it’ll be safer to eat my snack that was supposed to happen 30-45 min ago.

It’s just foggy/overcast today, so I ran. legs felt a better than before, but not awesome. This time of year, I can’t hope for awesome. Workout of the day was P90X yoga. I did the 67 min video out of his P90X2 series. His 67 min is more like a 75-80+ min studio class, since he has no long meditative intro, a super short w/u, and no long Savasana at the end. It felt good, but I miss my studio that closed after hurricane Michael.

I believe my BIL is sick too. My nephew (hospital nurse/manager) said he was sure he had it, though he didn’t get tested. I assume that means he has symptoms, but I don’t know. H didn’t ask.

When I had to go to the office, I needed to be out the door to run by 6:15 or so and I usually just did 5K or maybe 4 miles. Now I am out the door at 7 and back by 8 or so, depending on my distance. It’s nice to be able to do that and not rush to get dressed for work. I put on dry clothes, wash my face, and start my meetings! If I have something more important, I put on better clothes and take a shower.

@ClassicMom98

I hear you on the coworker thing. :-/

@MomofWildChild - that’s really the reason I’m not in any hurry to go back to the office…more time to run in the morning.

Our running club announced resuming of group runs in 2 weeks. I’m torn. I would love to see people but OTOH it’s a big club and typically if the weather is decent a LOT of people show up. Anecdotally one of my running friends ran into (no pun intended) a group of people from the club who were running in April and no social distancing. I’m also concerned b/c a lot of the routes we run are fairly popular with others and now may be even more so.

The general feeling among my small group of 6 is that we just do our own thing for awhile. The other advantage to the small group is that we do longer runs. I think that’s what I will do although like I mentioned I miss a lot of the people.

It looks as if the 10 weeks 10K program will start late July. I am comfortable with that.

One of my yoga studios will offer outdoor classes on July 1. The owner build a large wooden platform on the side of the studio (it’s in a house that she owns) that’s going to have large sun umbrellas. There are a limited number of classes. No shared mats or equipment–bring your own blocks or strap. I’m thinking I’ll try a class and see if I like it. Masks are required. Did a virtual yoga class today and a virtual neutral spine class from the pilates studio.

It was supposed to be rainy here today, but’s it’s cleared up.
I made it out for over an hour of biking around the neighborhood.
Plus I’ve done a fair amount of active housework today. I’ve earned my happy hour wine.

For fun… Our local Kroger-owned chain has been running this commercial.

I loled at the lunges towards the fridge and the grocery worker doing goblet squats with a packed bag because I sometimes catch myself doing squats while brushing teeth… And no, I am not too sexy for any piece of clothing. :slight_smile:

90’s here. Hot. My back stiffened up a bit overnight, so I decided to just run 2 miles this AM and not go into the backyard gym.

Except, I did go into the backyard gym this evening, but not to exercise. I packed up the rower and weight vest and I’M GOING BACK TO THE GYM! My gym is reopening. YAY!??️‍♀️

New gym rules. A max of 6 people at any one time. Wear a face mask when not doing a set. Clean equipment before and after use. And you have to make a reservation in 3-hour blocks.

Seems like a good set of rules!! Enjoy! Saw that SF area got a little heatwave. Yikes. We are enjoying its halo… 10 pm and it is still 70 degrees. Exercise today was a purposeful walk to the store to replenish our sour cream stash.

I really hope the gym people are surveilled. That would be a great data point. I expect the staff will be though.

Big news @sushiritto !!!

Very happy for you!

Good luck with the new gym protocols, Sushi! I know you are glad to get back there!

4.5 low heart rate miles this morning. Humidity is back, but there was a cloud cover and not too hot yet. Will do a longer run tomorrow and try for a really early start.

I’m currently taking a break outside at work. IT needed to fix my headset/microphone issue. The dude came in and had gloves and wipes, but no mask. He sat in my cubbie for 15ish minutes while I sat at the conference table and popped in (masked) to close out and log in, etc. once he left, my coworker gave me his Lysol spray, so I hosed the space. But I’m still waiting 20-30 min outside for stuff to clear and will wipe it down again. Blech.

Workout was better than expected. My run was not amazing, but it went by fast for a change. Video was P90X legs and back. After The Work, the legs part was easy (I.e. not terrible!) I died on the pull-ups but my triceps are still super sore from Wednesday. No worries.

@Midwest67 @MomofWildChild Yep, very excited.

As I’ve previously mentioned, my gym is about 3,000 SF with high ceilings and generally never has more than a 2-3 people at a time. On a typical Friday afternoon, I’m usually the only one there. And the industrial space has no HVAC, but does have a big roll-up door (floor to ceiling), which is right where “my Oly space” happens to be. And I can move the rower or air bike outside the roll-up door into the parking lot and do some HIIT/cardio out there.

While the gym has industrial ceiling fans (not the Hawaii condo type), so I may turn those on, depending on the circumstances. They do make a ton of noise. Of course, washing hands before, during and after use was something I did even pre-Covid and they’ll require the before/after hand washing now for everyone. And I have hand sanitizer in my gym bag. Wipes are there already.

I haven’t done a rope climb in 3 months. I wonder if I can still do them?

I’ve got a friend coming over later today for a back yard Happy Hour, just the two of us. She is very funny and always lifts my spirits.

She is about a 7 on the Scared of the Virus scale, so this is a big deal that she’s willing to come over.

I’ve got beer. Spiked sparkling. SpinDrift. I’ve got Honey Twist Pretzels. Hand sanitizer & Chlorox wipes. Whatever she needs to be comfortable!

So. excited.

It’s going to be a good mental health day! (And hopefully a good upper body day too!)

@sushiritto

I bet you are going to smoke those rope climbs!

Very hot and humid with a threat of thunderstorm this morning (didn’t happen until afternoon), so it was another treadmill day for me.

We are still on for tomorrow’s run - going to meet at 6:30 b/c once again there is a possible t storm.

@Midwest67 - We are having friends visit tomorrow evening after dinner, in the backyard. But we’ve agreed that they will bring their own wine. And glasses. (They only live 2 miles away, so we can have a short visit… no need to use our guest bathroom.)

A little scared of the rope today. I started with a HIIT of rope climbs and the air bike. I only did 6 legless rope climbs and 6 minutes of the air bike. I then worked up to 80%+ of my 1-rep max front squat. My back was still stiff, so I didn’t go “hog wild.”

The final HIIT was a 15-min row/toes to bar/farmers carry/toes to bar/row combo. A good time was had by all. Everyone gave me “guff” for the CF meltdown. It was nice to see some of my gym buddies. One of them, a college-aged competitive power lifter gave me a nice compliment by saying that I still look the same.
