Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

@Midwest67 not really. There were not many people- 15 at its peak and most weren’t regulars. There was only one person when I got there and I wasn’t walking about at all. nobody wants to be near me when I’m on the stairmonster. I’m nasty. But everyone seemed to be social distancing as much as possible. I wouldn’t want to talk to people without masks anyway.

Sounds like a strong workout day @ClassicMom98 !

5.2 low heart rate miles for me this morning and that will be it for today (did walk the dogs, too). Nice morning.

Did y’all see 24HourFitness filed for bankruptcy?

A co-worker mentioned to me yesterday that they’re closing many locations, but I wasn’t aware that they’re filing for BK. Wow. I’m sure they’ll be keeping a brand new SuperSport that’s located very close to my gym. I hope. Even though my gym has limited cardio equipment, and has a lot of specialized powerlifting equipment, I don’t want my gym to explode its membership due to the 24 Hour closing.

Clouds of depression moved in yesterday for some unknown reason. I was not feeling good today either but managed to force myself to train.

Hit 73# for 2 triples for the press. Back-off sets were good. It’s so easy to mis-groove this lift and miss.

Volume bench & LTEs were just fine.

Despite not wanting to train, glad I did.

Onward!

I walked my 4 miles plus as soon as I got home from work, or I would have not done it.
I just got notice my gym is opening on Saturday. I won’t be going, but glad it’s reopening. We will continue to pay, in hopes that it doesn’t close down. It’s Lifetime Fitness, another nation wide chain. I certainly don’t take advantage of everything they offer, but it’s relatively close to our house and a nice gym. I’m hoping I will feel comfortable going when I hope to retire next spring.

@Midwest67 DNS (did not start) is not an option. Keep gripping and ripping it. You’re lifting numbers are fantastic and getting better.

“Squat therapy” day today. A 4/8 (front/rear squat) pattern for 6 sets up to 75% of max. The HIIT was 15 mins of DB hops and thrusters. Core work was 3 sets of DB OH lunges and toes to bar.

@1214mom mom There is a Lifetime Fitness about 2 miles from my house and it is REALLY nice. If I did more indoor exercise or classes, I would join. Since I have my own treadmill and trx straps, as well as an adequate work gym (back when it was open and we actually WENT to work), I didn’t join. It has reopened only in the last couple of weeks- a couple weeks later than some of the other gyms. They really wanted to get their safety measures in place. We’ve been following it as we consider how to reopen our work fitness facility. I believe the Lifetime pools are open but maybe not the wet areas in the locker room, but I’m not sure.

@Midwest67 good for you pressing (literally!) on. There are days that are hard, there are days that it’s good to press on and there are days when taking a break is the right ingredient. I think generally our bodies and minds make the right decision.

Day 24 of the streak.

There is a 24HourFitness in the building right across the street from my office. At one time I checked into it for possible classes and they had none before 9 AM. This is an location surrounded by offices (there is a very small residential neighborhood tucked back behind), so I wondered what they were thinking? Not a good business practice there.

4.6 miles this morning. Varied my route to include a road I really like, but there’s a big hill to get there! Since I’m doing low heart rate training, it just meant some walking up the hill. Ran into a co-worker who was walking with his wife, and we stopped to chat. I feel starved for co-worker “in person” interaction. I only see them on the screen!

Made it for my 4+ mile walk, and a friend could join me this morning.
It May be my last day of outside activity for the next several days. Weather forecast looks pretty miserable here.

@1214mom Miserable forecast? Have you not already gotten the 3 solid days of rain that we have had? 8 out of the next 9 days has thunderstorms in the forecast, but I’m hoping it’s not constant rain all day.

Anxiety producing day. I did go back to the gym for the cardio portion. It was thunder-storming outside, but I didn’t feel good about it. There were more people this morning. I’d say 20-25. For the most part people stick to themselves and don’t talk to each other. and the ceiling are very high (like Walmart). But, if you saw the June Coronavirus thread, my SIL who is in very poor health tested positive last night. We haven’t been in contact, but we are still on edge. Everyone on that side has severe issues. And older S announced at lunch he hasn’t been feeling well. Stomach issues and fatigue. He took a 3 hour nap yesterday afternoon and went to bed after lunch today. But then he said Pepto helped, so he thinks it’e fine now. Certainly not classic symptoms, but still symptoms. Ugh. This is the part of parenting I hate.

But to my workout. 30 min stairmonster, 30 min bike. Then I went home and lifted P90X Shoulders & arms. It took me a bit to get my head into it, but I got better as I went along. I will likely stay away from the gym for a bit unless it’s storming or my legs are really in need of a break from high impact exercise.

@ClassicMom98, sorry to hear about the family issues. I hope your son turns out to be fine, and you SIL doesn’t have severe symptoms.
I have managed to get out for exercise without rain for quite some period of time, but sounds like it’s been pretty miserable for you. You must have sent it up this way!

Also hope your son recovers and that your SIL just has a mild case. It’s such a worry. I can totally understand your concern about the gym. I hope you get some decent weather so you can mainly be outside.

I was a little scared of the bar today for squats, and had to remind myself that despite it being a nice big whole number – 170# – it was only one pound more than last week.

Did it for 2 triples. Bar moved and the sticking point was more in my head than visible on video.

Followed up with volume deadlifts. 200# for 3 sets of 5. A single at 200# was a PR back in January.

Onward!

Really excellent progress @Midwest67 !

@Midwest67 “Life is a barbell. The opportunities are right there. You just have to pick them up and start grinding. It’s all on you. Always has been. Always will be.”

It’s a deload week for me. But deload shme-load.

After warmup, worked up to around 90% of my 1-rep max for both bench press and deadlift. Weights were pretty spot on too. Then 3 sets of 10 glute ham raises and single DB rows.

After squats yesterday and deadlifts today, I finished off my workout with a very “meh” 2-mile run. Felt like my strides were no more than a foot or so long. The police should have given me a ticket for running too slow and clogging the bike lane.

@ClassicMom98 hoping for the best for all your family members. It’s like we’re good…until we aren’t!

Please be kind to yourself - if you are not comfortable with the gym, don’t go! You’ll find some exercise to get, the rain will stop and/or it’s ok if you miss a day or two of high intensity - I think you’re still burning calories in reserve!!!

Overall, doing well here. Ran for an hour on Monday, took yesterday off–and ironically, my back/pelvis felt way better than than any time in the last two weeks. (How’s that for positive reinforcement for not exercising?) Walked 4.8 miles today.

4.3 miles this morning. Pretty successful at low heart rate protocol. Humidity is increasing, but still nice in the mornings.
