Lions and coughs and bears, oh my!!! Bears? Really??? That beats the big possum I saw on my morning walk!!!
I hope that employers are going to be firm and flexible in allowing workers who have any illness symptoms to work from home if possible.

Wow on the bear near your office! We are setting up an app for health checks at home before you even come to work and allowing continuing work from home- once we do reopen the office.
5.2 miles this morning and a .6 mile dog walk. 73% across Tennessee as of last night. Approaching Knoxville.
^^ @MomofWildChild do employees have to submit their morning screening at home? So is there accountability that they have done it?
Yes. And if they answer yes to something (like if they have a fever) they are referred to the medical management company we are using for follow up and might be told to stay home or get tested or something. If they say “yes” to sneezing or something and then report that they have seasonal allergies- and no other symptoms- they will probably get the OK to go to work. All of this stuff will be paid time if it takes more than 30 seconds or so.
I was excited about my workout today. There has been definite improvement in my calf this week. I’m hoping that next week I can repeat the wallk/run/stairmonster/bike combo, but without the calf sleeve. And then maybe it will be back to normal. I’ve been icing it afterwards and then 2 advil. The last couple of days I haven’t noticed it at all during the day, just during the workout and even that is significantly better.
My walk breaks are also getting shorter. I made it (downhill) to the gym in 19:45 with 4 min of walking. The (uphill) way back was 18:10, but only ~1 min of walking. And 40 min on the bike where I burned 8% more calories than Tuesday and upped the average level by 0.75 . I only felt the calf when I got off the bike and it tightened up. The beginning of the run was awkward, but I guess bricks usually are even injury free. The video was Total Body and I did very well. So finally, a good day from me.
That sounds like a good workout. Glad your calf is coming around!
4.4 miles for me this morning and that should be it for the day- longer run tomorrow. It really felt stifling out there- what do I expect for July in Tennessee?
Can I send some of our July gloom your way?
We are having one of those gloomy, barely 70 degrees summers. Perfect for outdoor exercise though. We still have not taken our kayak out… the lake water had toxic algae bloom, and now unsafe levels of bacteria… I don’t want to step or fall into that!
^ YES YES YES!!! If it makes it to @MomofWildChild and she doesn’t hog it all, it will make it to me in 24 hours. I was going to say that at least I picked the perfect time to be injured. July-August are the WORST! And I’ll throw in September-June-May-October in that order as well.
I stay out of the water as much as possible, so you can send us the algae too, though as I think about it… maybe not. We were highly affected by the Duke coal ash fiasco, and ever since we randomly get weird algae blooms that makes our tap water smell like rotting meat. Nobody (we got the state involved) can figure it out. They just add more chemicals to the process. Yay!
I took Thursday off.
Today started with back squats and then cleans. The HIIT was relatively short 3x15 combination of squats and burpees with jumping laterally over the barbell. I finished up a 15-minute recovery air bike ride with 15 hip extensions with pauses at 5-min intervals.
Saturday’s are long ones, so there’s that.
11.3 miles this morning with the running group (well, I could at least SEE some of them) starting at 6 am. It wasn’t a bad morning, although it warmed up fast. We had a nice route on a shady road, but it has some hills. Glad that’s done.
Pretty good morning. Calf still improving. I walked/ran to the gym without a calf sleeve. I walked before I did the route to the gym, so I made it there in 18:16 with 0 min walking. Then 40 tough minutes on the stairmonster. The run/walk back was tough and I walked for 1 min, but I did it in 17:59. I only felt the calf a tiny bit getting off the stairmonster and starting the run. Then I just did abs and yoga.
I was craving cheap Betty Crocker yellow cake and chocolate frosting, so I bought some yesterday and made it today. Bliss. I used to eat cake batter for dinner in college. Good times.
Now we are heading to the big city to test drive a new car. We don’t have a Subaru dealer in town. H’s 2003 Jeep Liberty is starting to have issues and my sonata is now 8 years old. Mine has been fine, but at 115,000+ miles, I like to have 1 super reliable car for out of town trips. H is thinking of a crosstrek and that would demote mine to in-town driving where it can happily last it’s final days (hopefully another 4-8 years). We will likely try to hold up purchasing until Xmas, but it gives us something to do for the day
Try the crosstrek on the freeway, also up a hill and overtaking. Mine was really under powered, I felt it was noisy in the cabin and I was underwhelmed by it. I love the forester though.
Kid loves her Crosstrek but it is a compact car. Not a whole lot of room.
That is true, I used to mutter getting my road bike in and out of the back. I would do anything to avoid taking the wheel off LOL.
Thanks all. It was a bit small in the trunk. I will contemplate that. But we are also going to be complete empty nesters soon. And I don’t pack much even with a full car. I went to the beach for a week with a toddler and preschooler and everything fit in the trunk of my Chevy Lumina. 2 adults shouldn’t be hard. And H likes what he likes. As long as he likes it, I’m good
I’ve had an Impreza, Outback, & Forester.
I have been satisfied with them all. The Impreza & Outback were used beaters, but reliable.
I’m driving a newer used Forester now and
.
I haven’t been able to get CC to “move” for several days, so I haven’t posted.
It appears to be a problem with IPADs.
Last weekend was great regarding exercise. Got “long” bike rides in 3 days in a row. (I think it was 40, 24, then 25ish).
I have been relatively good during the week. I worked every day. I think I walked 2 days for at least an hour after work, and Friday I rode my bike 2 hours.
Today I rode 24 miles, and tomorrow I will do another about 24 miles.
I have also done some light weights, but not as much as I should.
OK, long session today, focusing mainly on gymnastic movements.
I started with about 15 minutes of muscleup practice. And then moved into a combo of handstand push-ups and glute ham raises with pauses at the bottom. Next was a combo of rope climbs and weighted GHD sit-ups, performed every 2 mins for 12 mins (6 sets) and I finished with a 15-min treadmill run.
A nice 4 mile walk to downtown and back to fetch some sashimi. Lunchtime!!!
Very windy, so I am glad we beat the rain. It was 70 degrees when we started, and now it is 66 and get colder. But it was perfect for our walk!
Nice work everyone!
4.1 mile run this morning and then made a veggie frittata afterwards for Sunday brunch.
I have a Forester and love it. About 92K and it still feels new to me. Hope to drive it for many, many more miles. But if I had to replace it, I’d be walking right back in the Subaru dealership.
