Thunderstorms this morning and a lot of wind, so I stayed in on the treadmill. I was not excited about that, but managed 4.1 miles. It’s still thundering out there! Since I didn’t drive over to the path, I didn’t get to stop for donuts afterwards. Oh well.
I made it my 25ish miles.
Part of the path I used for many years no longer exists, which I may have posted last week.
Well, I figured out how to go through uncrowned streets to get where we needed to be. However, I went the wrong way on the one crowded street we had to ride on, so we went maybe 3/4 mile (each way) out of our way. It was an easy recovery once I figured out what I did wrong, but I felt pretty stupid
BUT, now I know for next time.
We had a nice visit with our oldest daughter! She was here for 6 days.
I skipped one training day so we could go to Wisconsin & hike. It was a 3 hour drive to get there, but well worth it. We took a less busy road and were treated to multiple sandhill crane sightings and rolling hills of corn plants.
The change of scenery + hiking did us good.
Good for you, @Midwest67 !!
@Midwest67 - A hike IS a workout
And being in the great outdoors with your family is the best kind of outing !
Another week. 4.6 miles this morning on legs tired from the weekend running. One of my friends did the “real” race across Tennessee, which does the opposite corners from what my virtual race is doing and is “only” 314 miles (500K) instead of 1000K. My friend finished 2nd to a female (she has won before) in 3 days and 12 hours. He was about an hour behind the winner. Can you even imagine? He did it “crewed” which means he (and the winner) had support crew van with supplies and a place to nap, etc. Many folks do it “screwed” which is without a crew. You have to carry whatever you need for the 10 days or so and you can sleep in motels, but you have to get yourself on and off the course- no rides. Some of them just sleep on the ground and under trees. There have been dog bites, scary people etc. It’s quite the adventure.
@MomofWildChild I knew of someone (from an online forum) who did that race every year. Or used to anyway. I’ve lost touch. It’s brutal from what I understand. And it’s in the summer, right? When it’s SUPER HOT AND HUMID? Sounds dreadful to me. LOL. Sign me up for the virtual version. I think he did it the screwed way, but I really don’t remember. it’s been several years.
I was somewhat lucky this morning. A thunderstorm rolled in right as I woke up, but it passed through quickly. I was only a few minutes late getting out the door. But then I was left with the super stuffy steam bath and drizzle. Blech. I was determined to skip the gym on the crowded Monday and stomped the beginning. It got better as I went along. I only took a couple of short walk breaks. I don’t know if they were needed physically, but I needed them mentally. Calf seems to be almost better. So, I started my new program. LIIFT 4. I’ve done it before, but it’s been a couple of years. It’s a combo of lifting and HIIT. Today was chest and tris and the HIIT portion was at the end. The core in the program is weak, so I am keeping my usual 5-7 min daily core work at the end. I confess I treated myself to doing it barefoot. Doing it that way makes a big difference.
There’s a good article in today’s WSJ Personal Journal section that reminded me of you @ClassicMom98 . It’s about conflicts over virus precautions in the workplace! If you can find it, you should read it.
I made it riding with a new person this morning. I admit I was a little worried that she’d be VERY slow and we’d only make it 12 miles (which is almost not worth the drive), but she did 24, and she kept up better than my normal riding buddy on the path we went to.
I’ve ridden 20ish or more miles for 4 days in a row. I’m feeling good about that.
Hopefully Weds or Friday I can get out again. Tu/Th won’t be happening due to work.
hey there, a light person checking in! I recently moved, and a lot of activity was related to that. I am trying to get into a sustainable pattern in my new house.
Good news is that the exercise room is set up now so I can start doing some videos to complement the functional exercise. That has been sadly only one kayak time (tides and wind have not been the best) but also some biking. I am also planning to do a neighborhood walk of about 2-2.5 miles each morning before starting work.
I don’t know the exact length of the walk because I am still experimenting with some extensions to it, plus my fitbit is acting up. It is about year old and I need to see if it is still under warranty or not. The screen has lots of streaks on it and it will respond to a tap but not a swipe.
In good news, I am almost at my weight watchers goal weight, definitely less than 5 lbs away, but hard to know with studios being closed in my state and so not an official scale. When I feel confident I am in range I’ll see if something has opened or what my options are to stop paying.
Although gyms are open here, I don’t have a current membership due to anticipating the move, I will be considering the local gyms for the fall. I’d rather not buy additional equipment but that is all under consideration or not.
Hi @jackief ! It sounds like you are doing great! FitBits definitely have a pretty short life span. Congratulations on your progress towards goal weight. Keep us posted.
@jackief I am impressed! I have a new little Covid belly.
That’s great progress @jackief ! Keep going.
I emailed a hiking club member to get some more info on how the hikes have been since the club re-started the schedule.
Yesterday, about 35 ppl showed. No masks or distancing during the hike or at the tailgate afterwards.
The club has a LOT of retired people and professionals who can likely WFH, so maybe those whose attended view it as a low risk activity?
I’m glad I asked. Sunday will continue to be yard work day for the time being.
Great job @jackief and welcome back to the thread!
Do you have a smart phone? Both Runkeeper and Strava have a free version that do a pretty good job of tracking distance on walks/runs.
@jackief - I like MapMyRun, from cellphone. I use the free version to track my running, but it would work fine for walking.
thanks everyone. I’ve used MapMy* before, and I do like them, but I like the ease of use of the fitbit and not burning as much phone battery. Even when I can’t activate an activity, it sometimes autodetects it. Since it is still working somewhat, I’ll keep with it, it also syncs to the ww app to record activity (and give me more to eat)
I was scoping out the spare bedroom aka exercise room to see if TRX could work in there, but don’t think there is enough room near the room door, and the closet doors are bifold. I’ll have to see if there are other options as this is equipment I’ve used before and would like to incorporate if I can.
Same walk/run to the gym, hard stairmonster session, run back. I thought I was running faster, but the watch said otherwise. Video was back/bis circuit style (no HIIT). I did OK. I got dehydrated and now am paying for it via wicked sinus headache. I hate summer… I am doing a virtual conference this week, but the session I picked today was way over my head. Oops. next one should be better. And then I’m off at 1pm!
Treated myself to a weekday drive over to the flat path. 5.6 miles done. It was just a touch cooler. There were lots of teams out there running- high schoolers. For here, it was crowded, but not bad. They just go by you in a fast WHOOSH! Ran from about 6:50 to just before 8 and had 12 work emails when I finished. It never stops.
@Midwest67 No masks, no social distancing? Wow, just wow.
Catching up a little. Sunday was a rest day.
Yesterday, Monday, I worked on hang (pause) cleans and then heavy front squat triples. The HIIT was 13 minutes of rowing, front squats and pull-ups. A 2nd HIIT was loading up the yoke with weight and 3 rounds of the air bike and carrying the yoke for 50’ each interval. And I finished up with core, which was accumulating 3 minutes in an elevated L-sit position.
