@sushiritto Is your gym closing? I haven’t been back to my gym but they sent an email yesterday that they are having some classes in the courtyard and working on moving some equipment outdoors.
Light exerciser checking in-I’ve been concentrating on PT exercises and just started back up last week with some of my normal exercise. I’m still not walking or running but I’ve started back up with Pilates and some boot camp series videos. This morning I did PT followed by Pilates and a boot camp video. 25 minutes into the boot camp video I felt so nauseous that I had to stop. Walked it out around the yard, I was surprised as I don’t eat before exercising and my heart rate was elevated but not as high as it can get.
I miss my gym and the routine. I’m finding it harder to motivate myself at home.
@mom60 Thankfully, our county was not re-closed, at least yet.
But if that happens, my gym also plans to move some equipment outside each day. My problem is that I require access to the inside of the gym for much of my “nonsense”.
In all likelihood, I’d have to return to my “garage” gym.
@mom60 Could you have been dehydrated? It sounds like it.
Mine is attached to joist in the ceiling, it wasn’t a big job, DH did it, the mounting hardware (generic) type just needs better bolts (hardware store).
Finally!
74# went up for two triples! (Press)
75#, I’m coming for you next week!
@Midwest67 Way to go!
Dehydration no bueno.
I talked with one of the gym owners today about the possibility of becoming a temp gym employee if the gym has to close again. That way I could still use the inside of the facilities for the stuff that can’t be moved outside.
Tuesday’s seem to be deadlifts and handstand push-ups day in the current cycle. Warmed up hitting a heavy triple and then a HIIT of both. A 3x10 of glute ham raises and then a 2nd HIIT combo of 10m shuttle runs and overhead lunges.
I worked for 90 minutes this morning, then made it for my 4+ mile walk before it got too hot.
I may go out again later, but will be Ok if I don’t.
At some point this month I need to go to the mall, and I’m thinking mid-day will be best. I just last week stepped into REI. Other than that I haven’t been in any stores since March.
It is weird to go to stores after not going for months. Weird to go anywhere, most likely. I have been to the grocery store and the pool and that’s it. They have both changed so much, with masks and plexiglass and distancing rules added. I went to the liquor store for a bottle of French wine for Bastille Day (!) yesterday and it seemed strange. Clerk behind the plexiglass counter shouting at me where to find the wine I wanted where before he would have come out and shown me. (Yes, I could have had it delivered. This is a new wrinkle where I live and I am not used to it. Liquor delivered? Wow. I could have tacos and margaritas delivered! Not very diet and exercise friendly, but festive.)
I am in a hot spot and worry every day I will lose the pool or the lake again, but so far so good. The lake has closed for big holidays like the Fourth when the crowds could be hard to manage,. The pool, an outdoor, private 25m pool with eight lanes, stays open, but we have to sign up for a lane a few days in advance. One person per lane, no locker room, masks to enter and exit the facility, etc. Sign ups for swimming open two days before at 8pm and in about ten minutes, all the lanes are full.
What weather conditions make biking get into the “This is not fun” category? IOW, how hot does it need to get?
Are you able to secure a lane usually? Sounds like buying concert tickets!
The lake or your home swim harness are alternatives?
Tough one for me this morning. I was apparently dehydrated, and really struggled in the heat, hills and humidity. Could NOT keep my heart rate down even with lots of walking breaks. I bit off a little more than I could chew- got 5.3 miles in, though.
Today is Day 101 of my latest running streak. One day at a time. Hydrating up with diluted iced tea and Nuun (not mixed together) now.
Strong aerobic portion this morning. I did my normal walk/run warm-up, then ran to the gym in 16:55, then 30 min hard stairmonster, then run (1 min walk) back in 17:59, then a few more minutes of jog/walk cool down. I feel normal now, but will continue this format for the rest of the week. It is better for my legs for sure.
Video of the day was not fun. LIIFT 4 is only 4 days/week, so many people create a hybrid calendar subbing other things for 2 days/week. I decided to sub with the Barre Blend videos. Many in my online group have done the full program. Most don’t care for it or hate it, but they admit that it works well for flexibility, coordination, and core strength. I thought i could give it a whirl 2 days/week even though I do not like anything related to dance. It’s just not me.
Thus, I was not pleased with today’s “Booty Blend.” It was 33 minutes and I hated about 25 minutes of it. She moves too fast, so my immobile & uncoordinated self just can’t keep up and it didn’t feel like it worked anything at all. Best I can describe it is if you spent 25 minutes trying to bend your elbow backward. It just doesn’t go. However, the other 8 minutes seemed beneficial for my glute mobility and strength. They were exercises I never really did before, and I liked that. But can I stand this program for 2 days/week for 8 weeks? We will see.
@Midwest67 We do get a lane (me and H) because we make it a priority. I set my alarm for when sign ups open and then jump on the website. Doesn’t that sound silly? But we do what we have to do. I don’t always get my first choice time,. but I get a spot.
Pre corona getting a lane was not hard. There were busy times when you might have to share, but there were also quiet times when you knew you’d be the only person in the pool. No more spontaneous drop ins!
@Lizardly We also have sign ups two days before for the pools at our city aquatic center. I’m just so glad it’s still open (for now) with the stepping back we’re doing in CA. So far I have been able to get a lane right after work, but there are 23 lanes in the 2 pools, so that helps. Saturday morning it’s completely full, but I check in early on Thursday to book it.
@Midwest67, I will ride even when it’s in the 90s, IF the humidity isn’t terrible, and I have plenty of water and bathroom stops available.
Last Saturday I was riding in very high humidity (and high temp, but I can’t remember what it was) and the last 6 of 24 miles were tough.
I took my first off day in about 10 after having a Zoom check-in with my trainer. I told her that I am at a plateau after losing eight pounds during lockdown, and she said anyone who isn’t gaining weight during lockdown is doing great. But I have been tinkering with my food for a couple of days so curious whether it will make a difference. After-dinner snacks are doing me in.
Today, I opened up with snatches, but I didn’t go too heavy. My form begins to break down when I go heavy with this lift. I then did a 10-min HIIT of squat cleans and rope climbs. Followed by another 10-min HIIT of toes to bars, pull-ups and wall balls. I finished up with a core combo of good mornings and GHD sit-ups.
Since I can’t run much and I also want to keep Mr. company on our trail outings, I walk. We have a system of three loops that all end up in a big uphill walk. We call it our Covid cardiohill. About 15 stories high an a short block long (but not straight up, so zigzagging a bit). I make sure to run that sucker at least.
I also moved all dumbbells into my C-Suite aka basement office and use then every time I get up for a bathroom break.
Fun good day, albeit I got dehydrated. I took a slightly longer way (~4 min) to/from the gym, then 30 min hard on the stationary bike. Video of the day was shoulder intervals. 3 sets of 2 back to back shoulder exercises, one 30 sec HIIT move, rest 30 sec. Repeat cycle 2 more times with different exercises. Time went by quickly, and I felt much better on the HIIT stuff than I remember from the last time I did this program. Finished with some core.
Forgot to mention all of my exciting sightings this week. Today’s 2 deceased raccoons were a bummer. But earlier this week, there was a large black snake in the road just a few houses down from mine! He was quite alive. (Just another reason to hate summer.) Then yesterday, I caught a policeman snoozing away in his vehicle in the park. LOL.
EWW on the snake and the roadkill.
4.4 miles this morning almost as bad as yesterday. It is certainly summer! Got it done. Forgot I had an 8:15 webinar, so I’m still in running shorts.
Is your trainer having you measure your bust, waist, and hips (along with weight)?
