Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Back in the shed today. The strength portion of my workout was working up to heavy single push press.

The HIIT was 5 rounds of the air bike and 10 pull-ups and 5 rounds of 10 clean and jerks and 10 GHD sit-ups.

I emailed the gym owner and he answered back that the gym may be reopening on 1/8. Crossing my fingers. I sure hope so.

We walked 6 miles or so around the inner harbor of Baltimore this afternoon. As we were walking back to our car we saw Santa, driving his old Oldsmobile convertible, with his reindeer dog by his side and a mom and young girl in the back. A little slice of happiness in this crazy time we’re living in.

I saw this article on CNN today about setting up a home gym. And the CNN article reminded me that once this pandemic is over, hooh boy, there’s going to be a HUGE flood of used equipment for sale everywhere as folks go back to their gyms.

At the moment, sellers are still price gouging, but I think I see some signs that the price gouging is starting to wane.

Early on in the pandemic, I did get a Nordic Track stationery bike (10 months old) for half-price. The seller was one of the yoga teachers at the studio where I practice. She bought it for her husband and he had used it 5 times. I’m not going to the gym right now so it was a good investment for me. I asked for the iFit programming for the bike as a Christmas present. My husband always asks my daughters what he should buy for me–so, I’m pretty sure I’ll get it.

Weirdo checking in. I went to the gym my usual time on Xmas Eve. It was raining and I figured it’d be a nice and empty. I was right. Only two other weirdos there. I split the aerobic time between the stairmonster and bike and felt pretty good on both. Stretched, did abs and went to the shed for the Asylum Speed and Agility workout. For the first time, I felt like an athlete vs the usual spaz flailing about. I must say this is the best looking shape I’ve been in during the holiday season. It’s pretty exciting at my age. I have 3 of the next five days off and then I’ll likely Hodge podge it until January 4th when I start the hybrid month of all P90 and ShaunT’s programs.

Every Xmas eve/day there’s a workout called “The 12 Days of CF.”

It’s a workout that follows the song the “12 days of Xmas.” So there are 12 movements and they’re performed as 1, then 2-1, then 3-2-1, 4-3-2-1…all the way to 12-11-10…etc.

1 thruster
2 hang power cleans
3 deadlifts
4 burpees
5 toes to bar
6 box jumps
7 hand release push-ups
8 reverse lunges
9 KB swings
10 GHD sit-ups
11 wall balls
12 cal air bike

It was a slog, especially with the space limitations of my shed gym, but my time was 33:40.

Of course it took about 20-30 mins to warm up all those separate movements so as to not hurt myself.

Merry Christmas everyone.

My husband and I got exercise equipment as our presents to each other. I got a lifefitness IC7 exercise bike, and he got a lifefitness elliptical (maybe E1?). Mine came a couple of weeks ago. His won’t get here until January. I’ve been using mine at least every other day.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! The only fitness related gift I got was some running socks. H ordered a race medal hanger for me and received an email asking him how he liked his purchase, but it never showed up.

@sushiritto - I have an almost 14 year old treadmill which I hope lives through the pandemic. Then I can hopefully replace it with a new or gently used one at a good price. Fingers crossed.

Today is a rest day, but I’m planning a long run tomorrow. Looks like only one of my running buddies plans to join me.

@FallGirl I’ll bet you will find something very nice, but you may have to wait until the latter half of 2021 as folks transition back to the gym once the majority of the population has been vaccinated.

Today’s workout was short, but intense. 30 minutes on the air bike split into ten 3-minute intervals.

30 seconds of intense pedaling followed by 2 1/2 minutes of rest. And did I need every second of those 2 1/2 minutes to recover.

That’s it.

We got unexpected snow during the day yesterday so no running outside for a couple days until the blowing stops and trail gets clear - I’ll be able to walk , indoor cycle or do strength training. Also COLD. It was so cold yesterday - true winter.

I was scared of the workout this morning. My biggest test of winter and the shed. I didn’t want to get out of bed but told myself I could cut it short. 18* and feels like 10*. The run went really well - not unexpected I guess. I like it this way for running. I think I ran the route a few min faster than usual, but it’s been awhile and I don’t write stuff down. And then into the shed. It was 32. And I started… and I kept going…and I finished the Game Day video and thought about stopping… But then I pushed play and did the Overtime video as prescribed. It wasn’t bad at all. I did pretty well. And then I changed and turned on my heated blanket and hopped in the recliner and ate my junk food and took a 2 hour nap.

I played 75 minutes of soccer this AM. I think the temperature was in the mid-20s but there was very little wind. It was super small (4v4) so we only played 1/2 the width of a football field

My running buddies all ended up bailing out so I waited until it warmed up (to 23 degrees) and solo ran 4 miles. Felt good.

Trying to back on track with food and wine. It was tough when S was here.

I just read through a week or so of your posts. I always get something out of reading what you all are up to, even though I don’t post much. I am feeling what some of you have mentioned, about the holiday food…I like to think I can have a little extra of the special stuff, but I have to be careful that I don’t get into bad habits. I am already having more treats like ice cream to deal with pandemic stress! I’m working on portion sizes, having just a taste of sweetness really helps me. I have been working out very steadily on my rowing machine and I feel so lucky to have it. We did a 12 Days of xmas type workout today–the novelty is kind of fun!

Sometimes the reading of others posts is the best motivation @orangepurple!

I rode the bike for a bit today, but y’all inspired me to do a hard aerobic workout, too. Won’t cancel out all the goodies but glad to get back on the horse for the first time since Tuesday. I’ve been substituting stationary bike-riding for my hourlong workouts just cause it’s easier to work in.

@orangepurple Well, if you want to scale the HIIT, then you could do the “8 days of Chanukah” instead.

There are so many versions of that workout all over the Internet. The key for me is to remove my ego when choosing weights and how many reps I want/can do with certain movements. For instance, six rounds of seven “hand release push-ups” is fast and easy. Six rounds of seven “handstand push-ups” would take me much, much longer.

Long day in the home gym today. Strength session consisted of both bench press and deadlifts. Lifted to a single heavy. The HIIT was 4 rounds of 12 lighter deadlifts, 12 ring dips and a 250m row. Time: 14:50.
