I set up my backyard gym several years ago when I couldn’t find a gym that fit my needs. Between the “deals” on the Rogue site and Craigslist I was able to furnish my gym with just about everything I need. More space would be nice, but it’ll do.
I was able to find a complete set of Rogue DB’s from 5-70 lbs on Craigslist. I was also able to separately find a DB rack/tower too in the next town over.
Right now, sellers are being unrealistic with prices due to the pandemic. Rowers, barbells, etc. are priced up to 2x by price gougers.
Have a good weekend, everyone! Keep moving. My new shoes and I mainly ran (a couple of short walking breaks) for an hour. I’m trying to be better about my hip and glute exercises so I did about 15 minutes of those boring things after the run.
Today’s walking was 4 miles in 4 separate 1 mile chunks. #1& 2 was to and from our cool local indie bookstore to pickup the books we’d ordered as gifts
3&4 was trip to the grocery store to get some stuff for the small family gathering we are having tomorrow afternoon
@hightide2000 - Good for you for doing post-run stretching. I really need to start doing that again. I’m avoiding running for a few days due to slight pain below my knee. It never hurts when I run, but occasionally at other times (sometimes at night). Maybe shin splints(?). It just seems wise to rest it while it’s not a big problem.
Yesterday I walked 4 miles with a neighbor, and then I went on two walks with the new grand pup. She is a handful. Reminds me how easy cats are. But she is adorable, and they are working hard to train her.
My running buddies and I decided to skip today’s run. The streets are not a problem, but lots of slippery spots on paved trails and sidewalks. I ran 5 miles on the treadmill while watching HGTV.
Good on the post run stretching. I never used to but found it makes a big difference- especially after a long run. When I first started running longer, I did not stretch post run. If I were driving home (even 15 minutes or so), I found I could barely get out of the car when I got home. Now that I make a point to stretch, the problem has gone away.
I was surprised when my alarm went off this morning because “It’s Sunday.” Uh… Not the best way to start. Then, my shuffle died 5 minutes in my run. Argh! I survived, but it was definitely low energy. Workout was the Asylum Strength video again. Pull-ups were weak, but most everything else was good. For a Monday, it was a win.
H walked in as I was changing. We both make a point to never interrupt someone’s workout unless it’s super important (and usually bad). But, H managed to get one of the new X-boxes at Target! It’s for younger S and he knew we would likely not get it until after Xmas, since they are so scarce. leave it to the toy/comic collector to persist until he got one. I’m much happier now because otherwise Santa would have been leaving him a 6 pack of toilet paper. (At least it’s a good brand!)
My allergies were AWFUL again this weekend. Only symptoms were red, itchy, runny and swollen eyes - definitely not covid. I’m not sure what keeps setting them off. I switched from my daily Nasocort/Zrytec combo to Allegra/Flonase last month hoping it would help. I had heard your body can get used to allergy meds and they don’t work as well, but that combo has done well for me for many years. Now, I’m wondering if it might be hormonal. I know it was this time last month that the same thing happened. I dunno, but I spent the weekend drugged up on Benedryl and keeping Eucerin slathered around my eyes. The skin is so raw and chapped from them running. It’s better now, except I look like I’ve been in a bar fight with 2 black eyes.
I’m behind a day on my training, because I decided my running mileage was suffering and ran one day instead of training.
Saturday was interesting, my D18 joined me in my shed and while she pedaled on the air bike and watched the Clemson-ND football game, I deadlifted to 10 lbs below my recent PR. And then I worked on push presses to a heavy single. The HIIT was rowing, push presses and lunges with a heavy-ish Wreck (like sand) Bag on my back. For core, I did GHD situps and glute ham raises.
Yesterday, after warmup, I bench pressed to a heavy triple. And then the HIIT was a combo of thrusters, pullups and burpees and more rowing. Total HIIT time was 24:45.
My exercise routine is all out of whack, but I’m doing SOMETHING, no matter how minimal, every day. Ds2 is here, and that’s disrupted things in a good way, except for my exercise. And this morning he woke up with a slight fever so is super-concerned that he might give me Covid (I am immunocompromised). I don’t think he has it, but we’ve agreed to quarantine in our rooms until he gets results from today’s test. I did get out and walk the dog and will get on the stationary bike later, i hope.
I decided to cut myself some slack until after Christmas. I usually gain those seven pounds between Halloween and New Year’s so the goal this year is to not lose but not gain. So far, so good!
To “not lose / not gain” during holidays would be an excellent accomplishment.
I will likely gain a bit since I’m taking a break from running (to concentrate on stretching and other non-running exercises due to knee concerns) … and dang, all the Christmas goodies do seem to make the season bright. I splurge a bit but do log all food/exercise to have calorie and nutrient awareness. That helps me keep portion sizes reasonable.
My eating routine, for the most part, has been the same until this week. If it slides here and there, I won’t worry about it. I’ll do the usual reset on January 1 for 12 weeks. From the neck down, I’m really happy with how I look. From the neck up? What can one do? I won’t be modeling anytime soon, that’s for sure. And thank god for masks. They cover lots of flaws.
Yesterday, older S came into town and we iced the Xmas cookies. That icing is like crack, and I ate way too much “cleaning” up all the bowls. But that didn’t stop me from eating a medium blizzard at DQ before bed. We had to celebrate younger S - he got a 4.0 again this semester, but still time he had 4 classes in his major and one data analytics class. Super proud of him I am.
Workout was one where I felt a ton better once I finished. My body is in ick mode (not from eating! ) but I slugged through the run. And then it was vertical plyo. I didn’t think it would go well, but it did. It might have been my best attempt yet, and I was proud when I finished. And now I sit at work. 7 hours today and 8 tomorrow. I can do this.
I say if you can keep up your physical activity don’t worry so much about an extra cookie or two, a scoop of hot artichoke dip or an extra helping of whatever food you have on your plate the next couple of weeks. Just keep active!
A really great 3 mile run this morning - not dark but not light - a favorite time to run. Last day of work today until January 4 so hoping to be able to keep up my exercise goals through the month so I can hit or come close to hitting my July-December goals.
Sure but it’s super easy. My Mom got it from the back of something decades ago. She typed it up on our dot matrix printer in the early 80s.

3/4 cup shortening

Soccer tonight was killer. We played 6v7 and played our full field (cross ways on full size field). With these numbers you are running the entire time. Per my fit bit, I spent 1/2 of the time in “cardio” mode and 1/2 in “fat burn”
