Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Oh, I’m sure they do. I live near a university, so we have a plethora of former athletes running around the neighborhood.

OK, so the 2023 CF Open Competition has begun. As always, I do it for fun, but as I get older and move up to the older age divisions, there’s always a chance.

The first workout of the Open is called “23.1” and it’s not too awful:

AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) Timecap: 14 mins.

60 Calories on the rower
50 Toes-to-bar
40 Wall Balls
30 Power Cleans
20 Muscle-ups

Most of us mere mortals will not complete 1 round. The best of the best will get into Round 2.

My programming magically had this workout on 2/3/23, so I know I already that I got into the power clean section. My goal is to finish the power cleans. Even if I could get to the muscleups, there’s no chance on God’s Green Earth that I could get more than a couple or few. I’m just too old.

Congrats to all those working out.

I’ve been working from home for a few weeks so have started some morning yoga and lights weights. Even put in some squats (thought of this thread!!). Trying to get the gumption to get back to the gym, but started running (jogging) 3x a week so there’s that…

That’s great. I almost got out to run today (48 degrees was sounding good to me). But had to change plans to help an elderly friend…don’t mind doing that though because my 95 year old dad in NY and his wife get lots of help from their local friends.

Maybe tomorrow? - 50 degree high predicted.

That’s nice of you to help the elderly friend, Colorado_mom!

Warmer weather makes it so much easier to get out to run/walk!

Indeed. And when there is sunshine too, even better :sunglasses:

Been a tough couple of weeks exercise-wise. I’m not working Friday afternoons this month because of going to my daughter’s placecto help her move. Last weekend we moved boxes from her apartment to her house and this weekend we helped her get settled. I’m also playing hooky to line up early for a couple of concerts.

The result is that on other days, I am working to long and not exercising enough.

Im getting in my Tuesday soccer and that is about it

I’ve doubled my move goal (on my watch) 3 times in the last 7 days.

I’ve been doing really well (for me) with exercise lately.
Tomorrow it’s going to be close to 70, and we are doing our first bike ride of the year.
I only wish all this exercise made me look better in that new bathing suit I ordered for our trip next week

I guess I should check in. We are having a very warm winter. Today, it’s supposed to be 82, breaking the record by a few degrees. While I would complain about this, our boiler has been broken since Saturday, so I’m glad it’s not freezing for that. Don’t know when the part is supposed to come… Our daffodils have been in bloom for a month and now several trees are in full bloom.

2023 has not been kind to me! I don’t know if it’s covid, the warm weather/allergies, perimenopause, or a combo of all 3, but since it mostly started with covid 4.5 weeks ago, I’ll blame that. I should be (and am) happy that my heart & lungs & energy levels weren’t adversely affected, but I think every other system is whacked.

The congestion that was stuck in my voice box seems to be almost gone. I just have to clear my throat every now and then to get my voice back. I’m still prone to swelling - that did happen after my Shingles shot the week before covid - but it MIGHT be getting slightly better this week. My allergies - which are usually AWESOME this time of year - have been terrible. Swollen eyes, itchy eyes… And then Tuesday both of my legs - the entire length - was covered in hives. My skin looked like a washboard or cottage cheese. What the heck? That doesn’t happen to me. And no, I didn’t change detergent/soap/lotion. Doubled up on Benadryl/hydrocortisone. It’s slowly getting better.

But the worst is that I’ve been on my period for over a month - since covid started. Any day that I think it might be getting lighter, I wake up and nope, it’s back with a vengeance. This also is causing my digestive system to be whacked - and might also be causing the swelling. Let me tell you how awesome this is, and makes me feel. It can’t last forever, right?

But since my energy/heat/lungs since fine, I’ve been working out as usual. Maybe a little less cardio (60-75 min most days vs 70-80 min), but my lifting workouts are a little tougher (P90X/Asylum combo). They’ve been going fine, but I just feel so gross all of the time now, it’s a bit depressing.

Wow, 80! It’s still freezing here in Ohio!!

A period for over a month is not ok! Menopause or not, not ok! Have you run that past a health care provider?

I know you don’t like the heat so I hope that temps get back to spring like instead of summer like. And also WOW on your trees already in bloom - that seems so far away yet here. :frowning:

I’ll trade with you. I hate hot weather. We didn’t have a winter.

When I was on mirena, I had one for 4 months! So it’s not unheard of for me. And I went in last year for a biopsy because they were so long and heavy. Negative. My body just does the anti menopause thing.

Still here paying attention to the calories in/calories out…still holding steady at keeping those 5 lbs. off (though, it feels so tenuous, given how much I have to pay attention to maintain it…).

Just wanted to share my latest snack obsession. 1/4 cup of oats, 1 tbs PB powder and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, cooked with 1/2 cup of water. At 125 calories, it is fairly low-calorie, delicious and very filling. Perfect to hold me over between lunch and dinner. I’m new to PB powder. At first I couldn’t understand the appeal, as part of why I eat PB is for the fat. But it makes perfect sense in a snack like this, where I want to flavor without the calories.

Just did our first outdoor bike ride of the year, IN FEBRUARY! Close to 28 miles.
I’m sitting on my deck and it’s 77 degrees, in Maryland.
I have a “goal” for this year now. I’m going to try and be better about doing weights. I’m fine with cardio, but I don’t do weights often enough. I’m not talking @ClassicMom98 worthy lifting, but just at least a few minutes several times a week.

For you @abasket ! It’s actually 48 and raining today, but here are some pretty trees while I was running errands. Maybe you can send me some winter pics and we can both drool?

Had a decent morning. Ran 11ish miles with some around 7:45 pace. Then abs. I was going to skip or cut short my lifting video. 50 (ok 48 min) of hard cardio like strength didn’t sound appealing, but I pressed play and soon 15 min was done. Then 30, then 40, then may as well finish.

:hushed:!!! That’s amazing - beautiful! Only in our dreams!!

We woke up to a “surprise” inch of snow. Just an inch or so but totally was not expecting that!

So punted my run. Instead did indoor cardio and did take a nice 2 mile walk with the pup. I am not comfortable running in snow (and the 20’s temp wasn’t appealing for running either!).

Likewise!

It was back in 50s here, so I went to the local lake trail for a run. Probably should have gone earlier because it was soooo wwwwwindy! It makes my slow time even slower (by about 10%), but hey… I did it

Truth is, I HATE running in the wind. Walking fine, running no.

Checking in this week. Weather here is cloudy and low 50’s as the highs right now. Rain has been off and on for a few days. I hate winter. I can’t wait for the weather to turn.

CF Open workout “23.2” was announced as 15 minutes of: 5 burpee pullups, ten 50’ (25x2) shuttle runs (aka “liners” or “suicides”), then adding 5 burpee pullups for each round. So, next round is 10 burpee pullups and 10 shuttle runs. At the 15 minute mark, you have 5 minutes to establish a 1 rep max thruster. So, it’s a 2-part workout.

I tackled it last evening and I felt this was a very good workout for me, because I like shuttle runs and the burpee pullups are just mindless work. My legs were a little wobbly after 15 minutes of Part 1, but I did eventually get a very heavy thruster at the end. More weight than I thought I had in me with all the burpees and running.

Today, I just hit the 3 powerlifts, squat, bench and deadlift. I worked up to a heavy-ish set of 5 reps of each and stopped, then 2 mile run on the CMT (curved manual treadmill) and finished with 50 GHD situps.

Depending on how i feel tomorrow, I MAY do “23.2” again. Typically, I do better the 2nd time around.

I’m not a big fan of running in the wind either. Had a pair of wind pants in the car, in case I opted to pull them over the shorts and switch to a walking day. But I’m glad I persevered since temps were nice. Ha… then last night watching “All’s Quiet on the Western Front” at the opening scene I thought that my wind had looked pretty tame compared to running into enemy fire.
