That’s great!
Congrats on all the fitness developments!
Started back at the gym and am doing heavier weights (as per my son and various body-building Insta ladies I follow…lol). I realized I can be at my supposed ‘goal’ weight and not look exactly how I want. It’s a weight lifting focus now!
Interesting read, though probably not news to anyone here, really:

@1214mom how’s your foot doing?
I finally took my day off after summer/H back to work. For some reason, my anxiety of him catching covid and bringing it home has shot way up again this week. Hopefully after getting my long awaited day off uninterrupted will help. I’ve been so tired this week. Summers are always hard on me since I get less sleep - and I typically hover around my min needed - and this one has been a doozy stress wise.
Thats my long winded excuse list for when I report I took 2 naps today - a 2 hour one in the morning and a 1.5 hour just now. And I’m not feeling guilty about it at all lol. I did get up regular time, and do my usual gym workout. And I dusted a couple of rooms and took care of a stubborn moldy area around a bath tub faucet.
It’s getting much better. Sunday night/Monday it hurt A LOT, and I couldn’t figure out any good way to walk on it. We were really worried about a stress fracture. I don’t think I did much Monday/Tuesday, but yesterday I did elliptical for 5 miles, and today I walked 2.7, and did elliptical for 3. It I step on something unevenly (like edge of stairs) I get a jolt of pain, but going straight is close to fine. I was thinking of trying indoor biking today, but decided to wait til tomorrow.
Glad you got a day to yourself, and you got to RELAX. I hope your husband does NOT bring COVID home, and that he continues to do well.
Just checking in. My foot is basically fine. I haven’t played pickleball for almost 2 weeks, and it will be another 2 before I get back to it. I’m having withdrawal symptoms :).
I have been walking or riding my bike every day.
We leave for a biking trip to Italy on Saturday. We have a couple of nights in Venice, then the riding part for 6 days (weather looks rainy on all the riding days we can see - BOO!), then a couple of nights in Verona. I should get lots of exercise every day.
I’ll check in, too.
I also haven’t played pickleball in a couple of weeks. But I am enjoying my new-to-me treadmill. I’ve been using it every other day or so and doing my regular workouts otherwise.
Glad to hear your foot is on the mend, but sorry you’re still on hiatus from pickle ball. The trip to Italy sounds amazing, and hopefully the weather won’t be as rainy as you think.
Checking in here, too. Lots of tennis and bike riding for me, with some pickle ball thrown in . I have upped my daily step goal from 10k to 15k. This is definitely challenging on days when I’m in the office, but on weekends I’ve been getting close to 20k pretty easily (caveat: some of the “steps” are actually me pedaling my bike…I’ve learned that a 25 mile bike ride seems to equate to about 13k steps). I figure movement is movement, right?
That’s kind of my “motto” or whatever - movement is better than no movement.
25 miles is a decent ride.
I might as well check in to. I did NOT do a Murph last Sunday. I replaced it with a 7+ mile run on the Bay, at a very slow pace due to my Friday & Saturday workouts (heavy lifting days). My body is/was a tad beaten up, mainly shoulders. I’m just doing my normal programming.
Lots of new faces in the gym and its been hot here, mid-80’s to mid-90’s. My shoulders feel better already and I’m looking forward to deadlifts and handstand pushups aka inverse presses today.
Yes, any movement is good. During my bike today (just a “lake loop” from home, 6miles flat) I stopped for 20 minute walk. Wa reminding myself that even a short bike ride is helpful for balance. Someday I might not be able to do it, but for now I will whenever I can.
@1214mom I hope you have a ball! Hopefully the forecast will change. Often the long range ones do. I’m glad to hear the foot is doing better!
@Colorado_mom Boy i’ve been thinking about you this week. My eyes went out of me, worse than I can remember them being in a long time. Saturday I noticed they were a little gooey during the movie. Put in drops, no problem. Sunday, maybe a little more of the same, but I didn’t think about it. Middle of the night - oh my. Itchy, runny, gooey, swollen. I was sooooo paranoid they were going to get infected. Monday, I took all the allergy meds, drops, sprays, and also stayed doped up on Benadryl. As long as the Benadryl was in force, it was OK. As soon as it wore off - bam… Ugh!!! I think I clawed them out Monday night. They itched so badly. Tuesday was a little better - I could go 6 hours between Benadryl doses. Yesterday a little better. Took it twice. Today crossing fingers I’ll be OK with just regular maintenance meds.
I’m not sure what got into my system - middle/end of August is when my fall woes begin and last until the first freeze in November, but usually my eyes aren’t too bad. That’s a spring symptom. But yes, my lungs went out of me last week too. Always forget how rough it is. Add to it the female problems from hell, and today just was rough. And after the aerobic portion at the gym, I was doing abs and younger S called. Someone (old guy - his fault) hit him on the way to work. Ugh! He’s fine. Car is mostly scraped, but still. Not helpful… I was in a foul mood coming to work, especially since I got behind my own elderly driver who wouldn’t go faster than 18mph!!!
But, tomorrow is my last day of the program. I’m pretty sure I’m just going to repeat it. I thought about taking a down week in between, but week 1 is definitely easier than week 8, so it’ll likely feel like that anyway. I really like the format and the length.
Sorry to hear of all your struggles. Don’t feel bad if you decide to take a down week!
I’m not sure what triggered my August itchy eyes, really severe this year. Glad to say that the worst of the symptoms have passed. One day I even forgot to take meds. In the evening, I’ve not needed the Benedryl. Hope yours are also short lived!
In August, the heat and horrible allergy eyes had me inside a lot. Just a few walks/hikes and biking, plus a bit of gardening. But yesterday I did finally get back out to the lake trail or a 5k run. It was not fast, but that’s fine - objective as to just Do It.
Last night I explained to our travel buddies that I had seriously considered just waiting til after our vacation (back early Oct), to avoid risk of injury. But… the longer I sit around the more I notice minor little aches and pains. And running is what best gets me up and moving.
The single best that we did before our river cruise was to walk 4 miles every day. We felt great and had tons of energy.
Checking in
The last couple of weeks have been pretty sub-optimal on both the exercise and nutrition front.
I have a good excuse though-- I became a granddad last Sunday. Mom and baby boy are doing well. but hanging with them meant no soccer for 2 weeks.
I’ve also agreed to start teaching Sunday School which means I will down to playing 1 day a week for a while.
On the upside, I am coaching 4 teams which will give me plenty of time on the field and getting the related exercise.
In addition to baby stuff-- I’ve been slammed at work which has contributed to late night snacking and other crappy eating so my weight has gone in the wrong direction and I’m back up to a personal worst. But as of Friday, I’m beginning the process of doing better.
Sincere congrats on the new baby and your new grandparent title!
You are doing a lot of good for others. It will all balance out eventually!
Congratulations @jmnva06 ! That is very exciting news, being a grandparent is the best!
I have not been here much lately, I have had another physical issue. Not one I feel comfortable posting about but I do have an appointment on Wednesday so fingers crossed. At present I really can not do any of my regular fitness activities. It’s hard. I love to read and there is plenty on line and on TV but I really miss being active.
Congrats! Glad mom and baby are doing well.
Don’t look back, look forward towards getting more exercise.
