Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Hm… maybe I should go for the Felix instead of the Forerunner? I will need to compare the 2 a little. Sounds like the Felix 6 is the latest.
Thanks

I’m one who is getting more exercise now, not less. I feel like it’s the one thing I can control and I also feel like doing healthy things is likely to help keep me healthy.

I am a big fan of garmin, I have an old forerunner and it was pretty great, I have an older bike only puter and my normal watch is the vivoctive 3. Does he want it for sport only or all day use?

it’s Fenix. Felix is the cat. I don’t know- that 945 is pretty sweet. One thing you can do is go to DCRainmaker site. He reviews every sports related electronic gadget and compares things. Just google Garmin 945 and DCRainmaker.

Calling @ohiooiho to opine on the Garmin selection.

@deb922 A discount?I’m in!
My watch selection was based on the size of the numbers.

For reviews on sport tech, DC rainmaker is amazing. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/

@Sybylla, I suspect he will wind up wearing it for every day, but I’m not sure.

My husband has an older Fenix. He does not like and does not want an iWatch. He wears his Fenix as a regular watch.

I just purchased the Garmin 645 music. I think it’s the best value Garmin with music. If money is no object the go with the Fenix.

If you are equally biking and running MNKat might gave better suggestions.

The 645 GPS is much better than my old 235. I think the wrist-based HR is superior as well. You can get VO2 max and some more sophisticated measurements with a HRM chest strap. Sleep tracking is much better. The only thing I don’t like is that it takes an avg for resting HR. I want to see the absolute lowest (My resting HR can get down to the low 30s) so I’ve loaded up a special widget that can give me low HR.

Let’s face it running is hard. I compete on a national level and I can honestly say the best part of a run or race is when it is over. I STRUGGLE during the first mile. You’d think that I would understand it by now. Maybe I’ve lost my ST and LT memory!

@deb922 - I signed up for the challenge.

Sounds like husband is really not into the watch (even though he suggested it this morning). I would love to save $100, but will wait until we can actually go check them out. There will be another sale.
Thanks to all who offered their opinions.
I can’t remember whether I posed earlier about exercise or not. I did go out for a bike ride - for about an hour and 15 minutes. Kind of boring just going around the neighborhood, but it’s safe and a change from walking. We have lots of little hills, so I feel like I can get a good workout in.
Tomorrow it’s going to rain here. Wednesday I will be out on my bike again.

I might sign up for the challenge - I downloaded the Strava app but keep forgetting to use it…but I’m not interested in a Lululemon discount- I want an alternative prize!!!

5 miles walking today.

A new cycle started today after the deload week last week.

Today’s strength session was several sets of snatches and then building to a max 1 rep front squat AND 3 rep back squat together. The WOD was a 25-minute HIIT of DB power cleans, thrusters and rowing.

Yep, I rowed today. I picked up my loaner Concept2 rower. It’s too crowded in my little gym now, so the rower or bench will have to moved out each day in order to get my workouts done. A small inconvenience, of course.

The bad news is that my local track has been completely shutdown now. Before there were just signs, then they chained up the gates and now they have signs on the soccer field and track with police tape at every entrance. Oh well.

It is sad to see things like basketball hoops being taken down to prevent people from gathering. :frowning: Sorry about your track @sushiritto

Walked with a little shuffling (faster than walking but not running) for 2.7 miles this morning on the treadmill. I would have gone outside but, again, wanted the ability to stop if my knee bothered me- and not be a mile from home. Busy work day here in corona-hell. Will try to get my Apple watch Move ring closed. You can re-adjust your goal for that every day if you want to! That was good for me to realize, since down the road (see what I did there?) it could keep me from being stupid.

@sushiritto I’m sorry about the track. Can you measure out a “track” in your neighborhood and run that course? Let the neighbors think you are nuts.

I don’t see runners doing it here, but do see cyclists riding around and around some quiet circles. In my old hometown, I do see younger runners going in mile circles. I think they do it for hill repeats.

Sorry @sushiritto. You are so good, and “they” certainly aren’t helping you.
I rode my bike for 90 minutes or so today, up lots of small hills. I also did yoga this morning. I have never been to a yoga class, so I’m certain I’m not doing many things correctly, but I try.

The track at the elementary school near me is supposed to be closed. I do see people running/ walking on it but they are keeping their distance.
Signed up for a virtual race in May. I will figure out the course in my neighborhood over the next few weeks. The upside is that whatever course I come up with I’ll try to avoid major hills!

I’m having motivation issues this week. I’ve made myself get out the door and had a pretty good walk both yesterday and today. What I haven’t done this week yet is any online classes. I don’t want to but I think I’ll do some strength training with hand weights this afternoon. Knee was bothering me today after my walk so I’m icing. Shoulder is out of wack I think from sleeping weird. I’m really missing my PT.
@sushiritto im sorry about your track and workout area closing. I’m noticing that most of the parks and schoolyards near me have all the equipment taped off. Same with the basketball hoops. The tennis court in my neighborhood is still open but the private school across the street just took down their nets.
