Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

First warm beautiful day in Chicagoland.

The dog & I treated ourselves to a nap in the warm sunshine.

Thanks all. The track was cleared by the police a couple weeks back, just when I was arriving with my equipment. The police officers were asked to clear the field, because some kids were having organized activities like soccer. I talked with them and asked if it was OK to train by myself and they said that was fine. But over the last couple weeks, they “tightened the screws.” I assume because of some “bad apples.”

I’ve had 1-mile, 5K and 10K routes plotted out for some time now. It’s the 400m and 800m sprints that I’ll have to plan.

After several days of rain, the weather appears to be in a warming trend here. Today was a “gymnastics” day, so I went to that open space with the pull-up bars to do about 10 sets/20 mins of muscle ups. I then returned home for “inverted presses” and the HIIT was 21 minutes of rowing, jump rope and my favorite (NOT), burpees.

Hello fitness friends! I am now down 10 pounds and have been getting in 5000 steps a day. In my former life (pre-accident) I would say 5000 steps is just normal living. Since my accident, I have a whole new perspective on what it takes to walk 5000 steps.

I have an appointment with my orthopedic trauma surgeon on the 16th so schedule my next surgery. I am not sure if I will have the appointment due to COVID but I am feeling positive.

I have a VERY long way to go… but I am feeling positive! Thanks y’all for this thread!

So far tracks haven’t been closed here. Hard to spike up on the sidewalk. I probably hi or on the wrong side of the baseball coach for practicing on the football field. Told him he was asking for trouble in getting the facility closed. Plus told him that the players shouldn’t be running in the track with cleats.

Missed posting yesterday, but I had a very good run and cardio flow workout. Today, I did a super easy, almost walk like effort, jog/run followed by phase 3, week 3 legs. I pushed the leg portion hard and my heart was about to burst out of the chest. Good day, but I’m remember how tired/sore I get on the week 3s of the various phases of this program. Older S has challenged us to this 22 day ab challenge. While I don’t love doing the same ab workout 22 days in a row, I was itching for something new… and it’s only for 22 days. It’s different and I’m getting more comfortable with the moves. Day 3/22 for that.

@sushiritto I’m sorry about the track. I actually have a key to our high school’s athletic field’s locks, but I doubt I’d use them if they were official closed for that reason. I used to run on the track religiously for speed work back in the day. But then the track’s surface got too many holes, the infield drops off 6” on the inside in spots, and the final straw was they changed the lighting. It’s LED now, but for only half of the track. My eyes just can’t adjust to the light/dark every 45-50s and with all of the hazards, it was just too much for me. They haven’t been able to host a track meet there in 10-15 years, and no $$$ to fix it or anything else for that matter. It’s too bad, because speedwork used to be my favorite day.

Sore triceps today from yesterday’s LTEs.

@ClassicMom98 you are a beast! I’m shaking in my boots that you are pushing yourself to the point of your heart wanting to burst out of your chest! Do be careful!

Went outside- mainly to just be outside- for my walk this morning. 3.2 miles and I could feel my knee, but now that I’m home it doesn’t appear to be aggravated. I wish I knew what is going on with it. I think the stress fracture is just not fully healed. Did wear my new knee sleeve. Walked back in the house to a work crisis and all my electronics were dinging summoning me to a Microsoft Teams meeting. Glad I got the outside break!

Ran 4.2 this morning. Part of the run was trying to figure out a good route for the virtual race in May. Good meaning: few hills, no crossing major roads, easy to social distance. I think I figured out half of it so then just run the reverse.
It was warm and as I told H the humidity was about 200%. Good thing is my weight loss is sustaining and I sweated so much I was 1 pound and 3 ounces lighter after the run! I don’t think that counts, though.

@ClassicMom98 Nice workouts! What kind of shoes do you like? Do you use a Garmin or something else? I’m always interested in people’s gear! Especially right now since I’m just wearing my running shoes for walking!

Did another 90 minutes of riding my bike today. That’s 4 days in a row of riding - more than I can recall since we rode the GAP trail last fall. I tried for few hills, which is kind of hard in our neighborhood. I think I offset any goodness in that by eating about a half pint of ice cream when I got home, but I can live with that. I will attempt some yoga in a little while.

@1214mom

What flavor ice cream?

Ben and Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk. It was good, and now it’s gone, so I don’t have to worry about it any longer. B&J has my favorite flavors.
We only buy pints of ice cream, because we have control issues when it comes to ice cream.

@MomofWildChild

I’m pretty disappointing when it comes to gear. I’m a low budget (think Walmart/Target clearance rack) type gal. I ran in all cotton (even socks) until the early 2000s when tech fabric became more reasonable. I never had a problem. I even ran a marathon in the rain in cotton socks and was fine. Now I buy the super thin ones that are 16 pair for $16 and they last 7-10 years. Usually they get lost in the wash or the sock monster eats them.

Shoes - Currently, I wear either Mizuno Wave Rider or Brooks Ghost – whichever I can find cheaper. I used to have 3 pair of shoes in rotation. Usually the same model, but the newest pair would be for the quality runs. Oldest pair for the recovery runs. Now, I currently have 4 pairs with the same philosophy. My watch is just the old Timex Ironman. When I did lots of speedwork, I insisted on the 50 lap count. Now, 30 is fine. Long before GPS watches, I use our city’s topographic/planimetric data for work. It comes within inches to surveys. I could map the exact distance of any run, grade of any hill, etc. And now I don’t want to know exactly anymore. I’ve got a good sense of the length of my routes even if I change it up. I don’t keep training logs, so it doesn’t really matter to me.

I do carry my phone in a Nathan Belt. I had a flip belt that I left at the gym. The Nathan is sturdier and has 2 zippered pockets. I like that. My phone has the health app that tracks steps/distance, but it’s wonky and always gets me short. I find dividing the distance by 0.85 to be closer. I ran a ½ a couple of years ago. I walked to the start area from the hotel, jogged 15 minutes, ran the half, and was walking back to the hotel when I checked the app. After all of that I got to 13.1 miles.

Sounds like you have a lot of years and it all works for you! Yeah- I remember the all cotton days. And the swishy nylon sweatpants!

Jumping back in after dropping out when this new thread started to zoom. I am trying to make my sheltering a positive rather than a negative. Not much stress eating and a lot more cooking and exercise. I’m down six pounds in two weeks! And now that I have a spring 2021 wedding in my future I have even more motivation. I walk the dog as always and have upped my weight/aerobic workouts from 3x/week to 5x or 6x/week. I’m also rising a stationary bike almost every day though not a lot, more on my weight days.

Way to go @“Youdon’tsay” ! That’s a big weight loss for 2 weeks. I’ve lost about a pound in 2 weeks and I’m just glad I haven’t gained weight since I can’t run! Glad you are back posting. Is it your wedding or a child?

Yeah, it is, but I have a lot to lose. And I expect it to slow down. Two things: I had gained weight while out of town with my parents for two weeks before and after my dad’s death. And I am eating so much better. My trainer always says you can’t out-train a bad diet, and this feels like the embodiment of that mantra. No fast food at lunch, much more lean protein and all home cooking.

Since I was running out of time today, I flip-flopped my Wednesday and Thursday workouts.

I took the easier one (Thursday’s) today and ran a 5K. Wednesday’s program is long and I’ll have to start much earlier tomorrow.

Congrats @“Youdon’tsay” !!!
