Florida Colleges for Biology?

I am considering strongly in majoring in biology and going into marine biology for grad school. What universities offer the best biology major?

I would think that University of Miami would be a good choice.

Expensive though.

However, if you have high SAT scores, you might be able to get a 50% reduction in tuition.

University of Florida and University of Miami. All other’s are for University of Florida and UMiami rejects.

okay thanks!!

If you’re willing to look into LACs, Eckerd College offers an excellent marine bio program.

A school that you will not have to take on a lot of debt to attend. Paying off high student loan debt on a typical biology graduate’s pay (relatively low compared to college graduates overall) may be difficult.

Eckerd seems to be very recommended when we’ve been inquiring.

Eckerd is listed in Fiske’s and CTCL. It has more NOAA Hollings Scholars than any other college or university. You start your marine science classes and labs as a freshman. Many of your labs are on the water. There are numerous opportunities for freshman to become involved in their professor’s research or design their own research project. Professors are rated and reviewed yearly on how they incorporate their students to work with them on their research. This past year, one student presented her own research project at a conference in Japan. Eckerd offers a 4-1-4 schedule that allows science majors to study abroad during winter term or a spring into summer program. They are hugely supportive of service learning and offer low cost, student designed spring break service trips. The mentor program has been replicated in many colleges. The new molecular and life science center opened in February and the marine science lab is directlly on Boca Ciega Bay. My daughter hopes to publish this year with her mentor and DD will be the lead author.
