Florida Opportunity Scholarship certification not submitted?!

Well, I was checking my financial aid status today on ISIS, and when I checked my 08-09 financial aid status I found this:

So there is no link to "fill this out". I can't find a form for it or any information, it would seem like this is an automatic scholarship for those with need (which I have, my dad made under 10k last year and is making less this year. My mom makes just as little, and in my household I live just with my dad (hence he is the parents on my FAFSA). Neither have bachelor's degrees, and my GPA is a 3.74). My FAFSA was submitted 3/4 and received by UF 3/7. I'm gonna call them but am having a hard time talking to a fin. aid advisor :/ Anyone have any info on this or know what it means? I have Bright Futures 75% right now and if I can get this I won't worry too much about getting 100% since I really am no good at standerized testing (1200/1600 and 1920/2400..I did great on the essay/writing. I'm a good writer). And what's ironic is albeit I have the highest average in Calculus and constantly get 5's on my mock exams, I'm unable to get anything higher than a 570 on my SAT Math. (my score is broken down as 570/630/720).

So, anyone know? Thanks guys.

Could be final transcripts. They take a while. Call the financial aid office and ask. Also, find out who sends the final certifications from your county. It's frustrating, but my son's full bright futures info didn't show up correctly on the website until middle of July or later.

Thanks. Calling the financial aid office just gets me transferred to an answering machine. Left a message but it says it can take 24-72 hours for a response..really ticks me off.

did you get something in the mail about FOS?

when I was an incoming freshmen they sent me a letter with the certification letter to mail in. May be you got it and lost it OR just never got it.
Definitely call the fin. aid office and make sure you get it signed quickly.

I know someone who procrastinated that and didnt receive FOS in the end. And trust me, extra money is always welcomed. Also, you want to make sure you get this done now because if you dont have the FOS scholarship your first semester here you wont be able to get it later on. And FOS is pretty sweet since they pay for a study abroad experience during any term/length.

good luck.

I read up on the scholarship. I think you should call the Division of Student Affairs, tell them you are an Florida Opportunity Scholar Recipient, and that you need help and support. The whole idea of this program is to help first generation students through the maze that is college. They need to help you jump through this hoop.

I never got anything in the mail about FOS. I check my mail every day so I'm pretty sure I never got it, I'd hold on thight to anything that said "UF" on it. I've been trying to contact UF's financial aid office but it seems like it's impossible, I really don't have all this time to wait. I left them a message but nobody has gotten back to me and I think this is pretty urgent. I'm not sure if the office of student affairs would help me much, UF is a great school but the experience with getting support is being a bit below-par.

I really need the scholarship and I hope this whole confusion won't screw it up. I'm gonna try calling UF again today during my lunch and then before work. I appreciate all the help, it's frustrating to see all my friends have their financial aid information up and mine still isn't there because of this.

Again, thanks, and any other opinions are welcome.

I know this topic is old, but has anybody been in this same situation this year? My financial aid status on ISIS just started displaying “Florida Opportunity Scholarship Certification” on 3/31. Has anybody gotten the letter in the mail yet?

I had the same thing, they were supposed to send you a letter with a certification form in which you sign in, put your UFID, DATE and send it by Fax, I did it like that and the Scholarship is part of my Fin Aid Package. It’s the highest (with the biggest quantity of Money) aid that I have from them with almost $6,000. The scholarship is not based in SAT, just first-generation college.

Oh I actually got an email about “additional family background information” yesterday from a Mrs Fooks. I didn’t fax or sign anything; I just marked the choices and answered the “please explain” part and sent it back as a regular email. A few minutes later (5:27pm) she said “Thanks, that’s all we needed to know.”

I don’t know what it was for, but I’m a first-generation student so I guess it might have been for that.

if you don’t signed anything i don’t think that is an official certification, but if ISIS says they received all the things then you are fine.

“if you don’t signed anything i don’t think that is an official certification”

That’s what I was thinking, but since I said I wouldn’t be in school for a few weeks (due to a combination of Spring Break and track meets) and I don’t have a fax machine, she accepted it

well, then you are ok.
