Florida or Auburn???

I'm high school junior with a 4.3 GPA, honors/AP classes, and currently a 28 ACT score (I'll be taking it again and hopefully improving...). I'm also involved in sports and other extra curricular/community service clubs and activities.

My first question is what are my chances of getting into Auburn and UF for fall of 2012? (I live in Georgia and would be coming from out of state so I don't know if that makes a difference?)

I would also be interested in finding out more information about the nursing schools at both AU and UF. Is one better than the other?

Any information/opinions would be GREATLY appreciated!!! :)

Hi Egc - welcome to CC! I’d think your chances would be very good. But why do you want to go out of state and pay the tuition and the out-of-state surcharge at those campuses when any school in the Univ System of Georgia would be tuition-free for you?

Can you afford the OOS fees at either school?

And if you want nursing, then look at Bama…it’s nursing program is first class.

Gorgeous new building, state of the art new equipment, and super high pass rate (like 99%).

Here it is…

[Capstone College of Nursing - The University of Alabama](http://nursing.ua.edu/)

I’ll be able to afford the OSS because I will most likely qualify for scholarships and I’m willing to make up the difference. I know it’s crazy to want to go out of state when UGA is right there, but I haven’t ever been a huge fan of UGA, and my visit there only confirmed that feeling. I don’t know what it is I don’t like, it’s just kind of an overall feeling, so I’ve pretty much counted it out. As for Alabama, I plan on visiting there sometime this summer. I have a friend who’s sister is there and they have nothing but good things to say about it, so I’m definitely looking forward to checking it out!

right now, your ACT 28 isn’t high enough to get much money from Bama or Auburn. However, if you can get it up to a 30, that will make a huge difference. You won’t get scholarships to UF, so that might not work.

Also, take the SAT…you only need a 1330 M+CR on the SAT (or ACT 30) in order to get a good scholarship from Bama…You’d get about $14k per year. For some students, it’s easier to get the 1330 than it is to get the ACT 30 if your lowish score is Science Reasoning on the ACT since the SAT doesn’t have a science section.

Before you visit Bama, set up your tour time and date, and contact Honors College recruitment and give Jami Gates your tour time/date, your major, and stats. She will arrange the rest of your day…meeting with nursing profs, touring the new College of Nursing building, touring the honors dorms, etc. jami.n.gates@ua.edu

O.K., so you have a negative impression of UGA. What about U of West Georgia or Georgia College in Milledgeville?

Yeah, I’m aware that my 28 won’t get me very much money, but it was my first time ever even looking at the ACT, so i definitely intend on bringing it up to a 30. I actually just took the SAT and haven’t recieved my scores, but on the practice tests that I’ve taken my math hasn’t been high enough to get my score up into that 1300 range that would be needed for serious scholarship money. But who knows, maybe the real thing will turn out differently… As of now though, I’m definitely thinking the ACT is the route I’m going to go…

I know people will maybe disagree with what I’m about to say but to be quite honest somewhere like West Georgia, GCSU, or Southern just doesn’t appeal to me. I know for a fact that I want a big school like Auburn/Florida/Alabama…

Georgia College has the highest intramural and community service participation per capita in the University System of Georgia as well as one of the (if not the) top nursing programs. To get a merit scholarship at any school you have to be such an unusual candidate for them that they wouldn’t think they’d have a chance of landing you otherwise. And then at state schools, merit aid is often targeted toward their in-state applicants whose families pay that state’s taxes.

Thank you, but I am well aware that there are plenty of other schools that have great nursing programs, extra curricular activities or what have you, they just aren’t for me personally.

If you get your act up why not look at Emory

I live in Auburn, although I’m not going to Auburn University.

Getting in= 25+ ACT should do
Half tuition= 28+ ACT
Full tuition= 32+ ACT
Presidential (full tuition+books+rooming+study abroad) = 33+ ACT

Honors College = Around 30+ ACT.

Auburn has TONS of hot girls. Man. it is a pleasure living here haha.
one out of every five girls is hot.

Football is crazy here. Everyone loves football. It is a football school.
The town may be boring. But if you’re in college, it may be different.

I’ll be going to UT this fall. Woo hoo!
