I was deferred from FSU in December due to my poor test scores 1570 SAT (highest all together score))CR: 550 M: 460 W: 560) and a 20 ACT. (English: 23 Math:18 Reading: 19 Science: 21) My GPA is a 3.5 and my class rigor has increased since freshman year( I used to be in all standard classes and I began taking a few honors sophomore year and have worked my way up to all honors and 2 AP classes (Bio and Psych) my senior year! My grades are been pretty steady throughout highschool, mainly B’s but a few A’s! I called Florida State and asked what I needed to do and I was told that my GPA was pretty much in their range for Summer Session, but my test scores were below their minimum requirements. FSU has been my dream school since I watched my cousin cheer on the field when I was 3 years old and I expressed to the admissions counselor that I would work to pull up my test scores. I decided to work on the ACT specifically because each time I would take the SAT my score would decrease bit by bit and it became very frustrating. So I studied with a tutor for a little less than a month as well as practiced a lot on my own. I got my score back and I received a 24 (English: 30 Math: 22 Reading:23 Science:22) My scores did improve a lot but I’m still nervous about my low composite score! Does FSU just like to see improvement or are they expecting a higher score than what I received? I also attend a college preparatory private school and FSU has known to favor kids from my school (many kids got in with 3.3’s and a few had 1500 something’s on their SAT.) Unlike public school’s my GPA may not be inflated but I do try to work to my full potential when it comes to school. I would really appreciate some feedback!
Are you out of state or in state? Hoping you get in, best of luck
I take it you are a In State Applicant. What other Universities were you accepted at? Maybe you might want to first attend a Community College (CC) and re-apply to Florida State as a Transfer after two years (if you did not make it off the deferred list). I’m sure you will get in with good to excellent CC grades. I think your Test Scores are on the low side for FSU.
Yes, I am in state. But I have only applied to University of North Florida and FSU, and I was accepted to UNF, but I’m really hoping FSU works out for the best. My mom talked to an admissions person on the phone and she said my test score improvement was good, and she said the rest of my application looked good as well, so I’m trying to remain positive
I got in :)))))
@Alsoco Oh my god congrats!! Thats so awesome, Im happy it worked out for you. What a nice and uplifting ending. Good for you, your hard work paid off.
