@SADMBDAD yes, it’s based on ACT/SAT and weighted GPA that is recalculated using their system. Both this year and last year it was a 31 ACT (can’t recall SAT as my DD only submitted ACT to them so I didn’t pay attention to SAT cut off) and a 4.0 GPA. It can change in the future though, so could be higher next year.
It is however possible to qualify for the OOS waiver and not be admitted. So, meeting the criteria for the waiver does not necessarily mean you’re automatically admitted. There are definitely those who are rejected who would have gotten the OOS waiver if they had been admitted.
OOS
GPA 3.6 /WGPA 4.0
Class rank: Top 25%
SAT 1370 (Math 670, EBRW 700)
8 APs, 6 Honors and 2 DEs classes
lots of extracurricular activities and leaderships
PLO2020 - read post #304 – and look through posts starting around then date-wise for kids with stats. There’s a link at the bottom of the acceptance emails. It sounds like your kid is very close . . . . .
My son applied in February and received his acceptance and 100% out of state tuition waiver today. Let the decision making begin. He has to choose between FSU, UF, Clemson, and U of SC. Pretty sure he has narrowed it down to FSU and Clemson based on scholarships, but time will tell.
I am a senior from St. Louis and I am down to Mizzou and FSU but I can’t decide where to go. I am going to major in business of some sorts or statistics. I am worried about going to FSU because it seems like a majority of the students who go there are from Florida and might already have connections that I will not and I’m nervous to go so far from home but I know there are other positives. Does anyone have an advice or suggestions of what I should chose?
@Katiemen1 I can almost guarantee you that 99% of of the incoming freshman are in the same boat as you. Unless they are making extra efforts for internships in high school (which I feel usually isn’t the case since we’re already busy enough), they’re generally going to have only one form of “connections”, as in their friends that are also attending FSU. There’s a lot of factors in this decision, and you should probably start with a detailed pros and cons list to really evaluate everything. There will always be people who got ahead in high school, but the ratio of them to everyone else is insignificant and that’s not something I think you should truly worry about in this process. Either way, FSU has an incredible business program where you have the opportunity to thrive around like-minded and driven people.
Daughter got her rejection letter from UF but at this point she didn’t care as we already have FSU swag all over the house. FSU was her first choice and she’s in for summer session.
Hi @jsflaw - My D is planning FSA in London, too! Hope there aren’t any issues given the COVID-19 situation. Did you receive any responses about additional information. Any FB pages, etc? The only thing I could find are You Tube videos by former students. TIA
No, she applied early but did not really want to go there anyway. She said it was too far from home (we live in the panhandle) and she had her heart set on FSU anyway. She was also accepted at University of West Florida.
She has already turned in some paperwork to FSU and next week we will go to get her student ID. Even though there will be no classes due to Coronavirus the staff will be there. Orientation is in May.
Your comments are reassuring- thank you. Our son was hoping for UF. Got accepted to FSU- Seminole Pathways. Before Coronavirus hit, he was thinking of spending first semester in Italy. Not sure how FSU is looking at their abroad programs now.
Rejected, but honestly, had no right even thinking he could get in. 3.0 and 1200 SAT. But out of state (California), legacy student an VERY strong music background. Put together an impressive audition and music application and did well on the interview, so thought it was possible. Such is life. Was always a major reach.
Roommate preferences are due by tomorrow. D20 found someone she clicked with on the FB group and they selected each other for their roommate preferences today. It just feels weird because things are in such limbo and I’m getting skeptical about whether students will even be on campus in the fall… Anyone else feeling that way?
My daughter has orientation scheduled in May for incoming freshman for the summer session. She got an e-mail stating the orientation will now be online.
Where do you see that information? On my daughter’s housing portal, the final date for roommate requests still says March 25.
Her housing contract status check does reflect that her roommate request has been confirmed, but the option for roommate requests on the portal is gone as of today.
