Florida State University/ FSU Accepted Rejected Class of 2024

I agree. I contacted admissions and they said the fall study abroad programs are on as scheduled. August is only 5 months away, not sure how they can be so certain given the abroad programs are in Italy, Spain and London.

I believe she received an email with the change. I will check with her tomorrow.

Our Son was down to FSU, UF, UCF, UTD and Arizona (our in-state school) and he has just decided on FSU!

He chose in large part based on program (Astrophysics) and the NHMFL for possible research opportunities. And although we were not able to visit due to cancellations, he liked the look and feel of the campus as well as size/layout (compared to UF and UCF). He is a NMF and will be on the full Benacquisto Scholarship which also gets him into honors. He did not get honors at UF and this was also part of the decision as he wanted the benefits of early registration and honors housing.

I know he’s excited because he already has the stickers on his phone/laptop and has ordered swag!

Congratulations to him on his decision! My D already got a cute tshirt and a bandanna for our doggie.

Congrats @BMC9670 to him on his decision and the scholarship and honors! My DD20 hasn’t decided yet, but FSU is looking like the most likely choice for her.

Thanks. Not gonna lie, seeing the entire COA scholarship money for the year already in his portal was a pretty strong pull as a parent. Well played FSU.

Talk about being proactive on the part of FSU. If you want them go get them. Congratulations!

Does FSU guarantee scholarship for NMF even if state defunds benaquisto? Did anyone see this in writing?

My S will also be attending FSU! Paid the enrollment deposit yesterday. It was pretty hard for him to make the final call, especially since his March visit to Tallahassee had to be cancelled, but now that it’s done he’s very relieved. Moving on as a ‘Nole!

I have not seen anything in writing about guarantees, but the entire amount for first year already appears in his portal.

Because this is a state funded program, I would doubt the school would give a guarantee. However, three things make me feel safe:

  1. The wording of program from the state: "This program will provide funds for 100 PERCENT of the number of credit hours required to complete a baccalaureate degree program, or until completion of a baccalaureate degree program, whichever comes first."
  2. State governments don't usually pull funding from programs mid-stream. When they defund a program, it's almost always phased out to ease future budgets. If they wanted to end this program, they would most likely end it for future incoming students, not pull it from those already in college.
  3. It's not that big of a budget expense for a huge state like Florida. We're talking about less than 500 students at in-state tuition rates (the school grants OOS waiver). In fact, they recently expanded it to include OOS students. It used to be in-state only.

We have a zoom meeting scheduled with admission director later today - I’ll see if I can get clarification.

^^^ To add: Florida just approved their next state budget of $93B that includes a roughly 10% increase in department of education funding.

Just had a zoom meeting with a Director of Admissions at FSU and they cover the Benacquisto should they lose state funding while he’s there. The wording she used for that scenario was “FSU would commit to funding the student… we want to see them graduate”.

Thanks @BMC9670. Very helpful.

DD is trying to decide. She wants to do pre-med and go to medical school. Does anyone know how the pre-med programs are in FSU. She’ll be in Honors.

My D applied a few days ago as a transfer. Took us a couple days to get her transcripts sent but everything was checked off on her checklist this morning. Went to check her portal tonight and it is saying her email doesn’t exist? It kept saying the password was wrong so we tried to reset and now it says her email doesn’t exist in the system. Did this happen to anyone else?

Son finally made a decision to accept FSU Honors! This process was way too long. I’m glad his decision is made. Now I can breathe. His Gator dad and Hurricane mom can’t quite believe we’ve produced a baby 'Nole. Maybe that is his ultimate act of teenage rebellion?
J/K. We’re super happy for him and know he’ll have a wonderful four years at FSU.

@sunwalker Congrats! Feels great to have an actual destination, right? My son is in honors as well. Hopefully this virus calms down and we can look forward to move-in day at Landis!

My daughter finally decided to commit to FSU! It was very hard decision because her first choice was U Michigan.

@Valka07 - Can you let us know why your daughter chose FSU over U Michigan (best public university in the nation). I can’t see the logic here. Is it because the cost of attendance?

UMichigan did not have her any aid, so basically we had to pay full price - 66k+. FSU granted her OOS tuition waiver which is 6k plus room and board.

Congrats on scholarship and smart kid…FSU #18 public and seems to head higher each year. Weather better too!
