Florida State University/ FSU Accepted Rejected Class of 2024

Does anybody know if they take legacy into consideration?

@greenandblack I was wondering the same thing…both my parents went there but fsu was the only school on my common app that didn’t ask if I was a dependent of someone who went there (or something along those lines)

i hope they do!! my dad graduated from there and i’m in-state so i really hope they look at those 2 factors more favorably

Legacy is not considered. My D dad is an alum and they told us it was not factored in.

@greenandblack They do not ask legacy on the application. Not considered.

@sunwalker Miami is much harder to get into than FSU…

Miami is not harder to get into if you are applying to FSU as an OOS student. Miami acceptance rate is 38% where FSU for OOS is 19.5%.

Miami accepted 2100 this year out of 38000 applications. It was on the acceptance letter.

I am thinking that 19% might be a yield number compared to the amount that applied OOS vs instate.

If people were getting in last year with 1250’s and 3.5 GPA’s then I don’t think 19% was an accurate acceptance

@newjerseysenior I don’t think it was the yield number. This is according to FSU’s website: https://news.fsu.edu/news/university-news/2019/02/04/florida-state-shatters-admission-applications-record-again/

"Florida State received nearly 57,000 first-year applications for admission to the 2019 summer and fall semesters before early notifications on Jan. 31. "

“Florida State admitted 19,230 students from every county in Florida, 49 states, Washington, D.C., and 37 countries. Out-of-state applications increased 41 percent with the acceptance rate for out-of-state students at 19.5 percent.”

That is saying that FSU is on the same acceptance level as UGA

The acceptance rate for UGA is about 45%. It is the same for in-state and OOS. FSU has a much lower acceptance for OOS students unless I am reading the info on their website incorrectly. It also seems very low to think that this year’s acceptance rate for Miami went from 38% to 18%.

@Brooklynroots … OOS acceptance for UGA is much harder. Meaning the percent is probably lower. OOS is ALWAYS going to be harder at state schools especially at a school like Georgia or FSU because they like 80% or so in-state (much like UT Austin and UNC).

it seems weird that miami had a 5% acceptance rate? or was that just for OOS?

@gilliangrace Miami is a private school OOS or instate does not matter

UT Austin has a requirement where 90% of the students have to be instate. UNC is in the same boat. Dont know why

Does anyone know how FSU compares to Penn State? It is also a big state school

UGA is not like Austin, FSU or UNC. They don’t need to meet a certain in-state quota. The acceptance rate is the same for both in-state and OOS. Look at their website.

The Miami acceptance letter said “with more than 38000 students applying for 2100 spaces in the first-year class”.
