Florida State, University of Central Florida, University South Florida any applicants

bbecker, that makes zero sense to me.

I still believe FSU is for UF rejects.

While you're free to believe what you want, there are plenty of people who would much rather be a 'Nole than a Gator. De Gustibus Non Desptuandem Est, as they say ("In matters of taste there is no dispute").

UF can afford to be selective, they are getting tons of applications from very good students and they have limited space.

From what I understand, the state of Florida is very concerned about the fact that they have three schools in the Top Ten Student Headcounts but none in the Top Ten Schools in the Nation. Apparently, the system is set up to reward schools based on headcount moreso than other factors, so these schools have swelled to near 50k's and the state has put the clamp down on it. So while schools like UCF and UF have the physical capacity to house more students than that, they simply can't under these restrictions.

So that could be a contributing factor as well.

No movement on the Application still, I wonder if they have you assigned to a person that QB's your app at UCF and is your advocate so to speak. Will watch the balance of the week for any status change and then make another call.

D decided to call UCF on her own again this afternoon after school. I can tell she is tired of waiting. She left a voice mail as nobody was aval. Anyone know if they return calls in any reasonable time period.

Getting quite a bit of E Mail from USF since acceptance.

Ray111,

Hang in there for UCF. I still think things will move once kids already accepted early under rolling admissions make up their minds where they want to go. It is so hard waiting until April to hear from most schools.

Our visit to NCF was good overall. My D really enjoyed the class she went to and thought the kids were nice. We still have some reservations about the Sarasota area, so looks like all cards need to stay on the table until we hear from all the schools she applied to before any final decisions are made. She has an overnight visit scheduled for Rollins later this month, so it will be interesting to see how she views it compared to NCF and the others.

And yes, there seems to be either mail or email from USF everyday!

Thanks, glad to hear that you and D had a nice trip. It's hard for me to see this going that long (April). If she gets her accept from FSU on 3/28 in the absence of any UCF offer I think she will just opt immediatly for that, she may do that anyways even if she does have something from UCF in her hand.

It seems like at UCF if you make the cut line you hear quickly, it's not clear to us what process or QB you may have if you are in the middle area. The way perhaps they deal with you is just waiting for you to go away somewhere else. She knows she is qualified to go there and the longer this goes on I see her interest waining. From my perspective I worry that her updates are in the file, but she has fallen in a crack somewhere and no one is pushing her app through the process. They didn't call back so she wasn't to excited about that either.

Good news the UCF acceptance for my daughter was posted this afternoon. She got a nice surprise when she checked the website after school. Fall admission no conditions.

For those kids that did get deferals and were told deferals don't get in there is hope. We are now 2 for 2 accepts after deferals and I expect now that she will get her FSU acceptance at the end of the month for the hat trick.

What a relief!!!!!! She is estatic

Congratulations to Ray's daughter!!!! What a relief! Have you put in for housing yet?

Congratulations Ray's Daughter for UCF, and I hope your admittance to FSU comes soon, too. I'd like kids to have a couple of options to choose from, so I love to hear about admittances. <g> We'll hear from UF and UGA at the end of the month and make our final decisions. :)</g>

zebes

Thanks guys, no nothing on housing as of yet. I think she has ruled out the previous three accepts she had after the UCF offer and is mulling basically UCF and FSU pluses and minus for each school.

Is UCF a non binding deposit on housing, is it refundable?

I remember the housing deposit is non-binding, but I can't remember if it's refundable or not. I don't believe it is. It's not joined in anyway with the enrollment deposit, so you don't have to worry that if you submit a housing deposit that you just enrolled.

zebes

I would do the housing deposit if I were you. Its only $100 and its really tough to get housing in UCF if you chose to go and hadn't submitted the payment yet.

I did it just incase I decide to go.

We will do it today or tomm. The web page is down today for updates.

We weren't aware you could deposit before you were accepted. I'm kind of thinking that housing assignments are tied to sending in the enrollment money, how else would they know you are coming and I'm not sure they will send out a housing contract to a non committed student? Does this make sense?

Well we went online and paid the $100 to UCF for housing when the web page came back online. There is enough disclaimers on the page to give you some sleepless nights. Has anyone gotten a contract yet?

S has applied to honors housing, and the paper he got said housing contracts come out the end of March. By then, he will have heard from other schools and will send in enrollment and fill out housing contract, or not. But, from what I understand, his priority is based on when he initially paid the deposit/applied for housing.

^ Thanks, I'm going to give housing a call tomm, I will post what they say. Will the purgatory of Admission not be followed for one of housing.

Honors may have a different aspect to it because they have their own housing option?

I called UCF Housing just now, basically they told me that I should expect to see a Housing Contract around Mid April. Housing contracts are not mailed out unless the student has been accepted at the University and are not tied in any way to enrollment. I gathered when I asked it being still early enough in the year that there are still slots available on Campus although I didn't feel totally 100% on this one. No information to share on the number of applications, but I did ask. by the sounds of it it's really dependent on how many have been accepted so far, how many have paid the application fee and how many chose to come.

How should you approach your first year scheduling when you go to Orientation? Should you arrive with pretty much the schedule you want to take already in your pocket or just let it come out during your meeting with your advisor or focus group person for the part of the Orientation.

Is your schedule session a very bang bang thing where things are just written down and pretty much cookbook/assembly line and their isn't very much back and forth? Or something a bit more shared responsibility?

I was very worried about 1st year scheduling, as my husband and I will be chaperoning a trip to Europe for my daughter's youth group during the time of orientation for our son, assuming he goes to UCF (where he appears to be leaning). Today I took him out for breakfast ... just to chat, as I find he's more likely to communicate when it's not dinner time at the table and he can just jump up when he's done. At a restaurant, he's at the mercy of the waiter. <g> Anyway, after talking to him (someone who's been "undeclared" for a long time), I realized he's more "declared" than I thought. He actually as a clue what he doesn't want ... and a fairly logical, reasonable idea of what he might want for the future. Made me feel much better. Now, at least, we can talk to him about things he might want to discuss with his scheduling/guidance counselor before he goes to the orientation. Since he's been admitted to UCF's honors program, he'll go through orientation with them. Supposedly, he gets priority reg. with Honors ... we'll see if it makes a difference. He's hoping to double major: English and Business. With his AP credits, he'll pretty much come in with sophomore standing in credit hours ... so he figures he could still get out in four years, even double majoring. He's considering law school, and two of the men who spoke in his law studies class this year (an assis. D.A. and someone from the FBI) both mentioned that English as a major was great for law school, and he figures if he changes his mind and decides to pursue and MBA, English couldn't hurt. But, I still admit ... I wish I was there with him. </g>
