Food Better This Year?

S1 was on a visit recently, and was told that U of C had changed food providers recently, resulting in much better chow at the dining halls. Can anyone else confirm this?

The change was put into effect in 2016. The new vendor is Bon Appetit; if memory serves, they took over the contract from Aramark. If I am wrong, I hope that someone corrects me on this. That was my DD’s first year, so I do not know how the new vendors are in comparison to the old. However, DD’s biggest complaint last year was under-cooked chicken. Since she has not made any negative comments about the dining hall this year, perhaps the new vendor has hit their stride or maybe DD has a greater appreciation of what is offered after spending the summer cooking for herself. Either way, she’s not starving.

So much better. Bon Appetit is miles superior to Aramark.

Enjoyed the food at Cathey during move-in. Good choices too.

I posted about this during O week as I had a conversation with the department head about this specifically:

I’ve eaten in North a handful of times and today was the first at Bartlett. Happened upon a conversation with the GM of the dining halls and was surprised to learn about the burgers being made from grass fed beef, chicken is free range from small farms in Iowa, vegetables from local farms, sauces from local co-ops. Food is good with many choices and on par with its peers.

No complaints thus far from my son.
