Since I understood that 9/3 would be the start date for a new food service company at USNA, was curious to hear from current mids and those related to them how things are improving. Obviously won't get resolved in one day, but in the next several days or weeks will be interested to hear the latest experiences.

You beat me to it. I was going to ask the same thing tomorrow. :)

Let's see what happens...

While I understand it varies from table to table, my plebe son reports increased quantity over the past week and noticeably more nutritious fare today. He actually sent me part of the month's menu he has to memorize, and it looked far healthier. If the food service folks are able to deliver on it and keep volume up, it does look as if things are improving.

IMHO, I hate it. Red meat is eliminated from our diet. Every single dinner is either chicken, turkey, or fish. Turkey tacos, Turkey sausage, chicken cordon bleu, wahoo (read: fish) burgers, etc.

Sliders are gone...replaced by turkey and 'pub' burgers...whatever those are...probably pork.

As a God-fearing Texan, I live on real meat. Beef, venison, elk...whenever I'm home, I always manage to dig up a steak in the freezer and have atleast one a day when on leave. I used to look forward to chow as a respite from the daily activities, but not anymore.

Losing Friday liberty is something I can deal with...but completely removing red meat from the diet is actually depressing to me. Add to that the fact that I have to go to every meal makes it doubly so.

Again, my own opinion...take it as you will.

How can the Supt state that he is better preparing the Mids for the fleet and eliminate sliders. A true dichotomy. Sounds like the food services pendulum can also swing both ways. Maybe they will establish mid rats and serve nothing but sliders.

Pardon my ignorance, what's a slider?

Sliders: Hamburgers/cheeseburgers. So called because they would slide across the grill when underway.

Hey - down here in the SC Lowcountry we also have shrimp sliders. Kinda like a "shrimpburger". Ever heard of those? If y'all ever get down this way, you'll have to try 'em...

Sorry - I guess this is off topic...

Hope all y'all have a JOYFUL day & hope the USNA food gets better & better!
I BELIEVE it will! :)

Cheers!

Lovely. I must have the only mid who is allergic to fish. Looks like dry cereal and benedryl for him! :)

^^^^nah- Drydock is back-on-line now....and so are the Mids! Keep the faith...they are still serving sliders in there!!! ;)

^^^^Actually, when I was in there last week, the menu only contained four sandwiches...all of which are some form of chicken. All the old sandwiches (Navy Football, 'Bandwich', etc) are gone, but supposedly available on request.

Dmeix- noticed the same thing- but if you "ask", they will "make"....
(sort of miss the "Favorites" menu though.... the ones named after the profs, coaches, etc!)

From my Mid - lunch was pretty good. BBQ pork sandwiches....still some moldy buns, but there were enough to put the moldy one back and get another.

We're Lutheran, but nevertheless I don't think my mid has ever eaten pork. What about the Jewish and Muslim mids? Pork?

Let them eat cake!

^^^^ LOL!!!

(these days my mid will eat just about anything! After a whole summer of trying to reach 200, he hit reform at 196....weighed in at the trainer yesterday- whopping 185!!! :( )

update... "how was dinner tonight?"
"decent."

:)

Breakfast - had turkey bacon "that was good," lunch - "had some kind of mystery pork thing..but not bad." Talked to him before dinner so didn't hear.

^^^^ dinner was "teriyaki chicken"... "decent"....
(said the pulled pork at lunch was "ok"... couldn't eat it as he had those "landing zones" shortly after.... too much running on a full stomach ain't pretty! )

Waiting to hear what is on the menu for Day 2.... any chance of getting a plebe to chime in with a "chow call" ??? ;)
