Football and Basketball Games?

Are tickets really given out through raffles? If this is true what I heard, this would honestly be one of the dumbest ideas ever. I mean seriously? I'm going to be paying 35 grand a year (out of state) to go to your school and you raffle away your tickets? I'm not even asking to be like Maryland where students go to ALL games for FREE. At the very least give all STUDENTS a chance to buy tickets for all games. Honestly, this itself would be a big enough reason for me not to go to the school. This is just what I heard, but wow I hope this isn't true because i will be EXTREMELY disappointed. Also, am I seriously not supposed to believe that upper class-men won't have some pull in this so called "raffle"?

Umm, (correct me if I’m wrong) but I thought the raffles were for a chance to win season tickets to all the football games. I believe you had to pay to be in the raffle, and if you won, they kept your money and you got the tickets. If you didn’t get it, they refunded you all your money. I’m not so sure, but I thought that was what the raffle was for.

uh. first of all, calm down. they’re tickets.

second of all, UF football is not maryland football.

third of all, you’re getting upset about inaccurate/false information. all student season tickets are indeed sold via raffle. this is how it works because if it was more market based, the prices per tickets would be several times higher than they currently are (think $40-50/game; as an econ student i don’t think its a travesty, but i know it would definitely hurt school spirit). HOWEVER, students with season tickets are required to pick up their tickets by Wednesday the week of the game. all tickets that were not picked up are then resold Thursday night via ticketmaster for face value ($10). those students pick up their tickets on friday. if those students then don’t pick them up, there is usually a very limited number of tickets available at the ticket counter a few hours before game-time.

i haven’t gotten the raffle in the 2 years i’ve been here. i have still gone to every single game. if you’re willing to pay, there will always be tickets available on craigslist or facebook. tickets usually peak at around $40 on craigslist. some games end up at face value, and the average is probably about $20/game.

FOR BASKETBALL: tickets are free, you just have to rsvp. i’ve never gone to a basketball game; the sign-up process is more complicated. i dont remember if theres a raffle or not, but its not that hard to get tickets to those either.

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it. I was just upset because I really want to go here but would be upset if all that information was true. Can you just please give me some more information on how you have gone to all the football games without winning the season tickets. If you bought them online, how many were you able to buy. Basically, how many other friends were you able to go with?

you can only buy one ticket per student. no exceptions.

if you and your friends all get tickets in the thursday night sale, you can pick them up together on friday and get seats next to each other. if your friends got lottery tickets and you didn’t, you won’t get tickets next to each other unless you trade with someone on craigslist, but you’ll probably have to pay them something on top of giving them the tickets. you have to pick up the tickets together to get them adjacent.

you can also upgrade student tickets. if a friend buys a ticket on thursday, or you get the lottery with a friend, you can have them pick up their ticket with you and upgrade their ticket so that a non-student friend can get into the student section. this is meant so that friends from other universities or family can come along and sit in the student section. otherwise, all students show an ID to get in.

as for how i got them: usually i didn’t have any issues getting the tickets on thursday. you should note, however, that those tickets tell out immediately. everyone refreshes the page every second for 10 minutes before 6. at 6, give or take a couple of seconds, the tickets become available. they’re frequently completely sold out within 5, or less frequently, 10 minutes. when i don’t make the cut for whatever reason, i just fork out the $20-30 for a ticket. i probably couldn’t afford to do this 7 times a season, but i make the thursday deadline about 4-5 times a season and pay above face value or buy from a friend the other times.

who else are interested in buying tickets for? if you’re brining your whole extended family, i recommend looking into getting regular non-student seats. i cant speak for how those work, but they’re also not impossible to get.
