Football ticket discounts?

I heard that if you have trouble or don't think you can really afford football tickets without being really tight, your dorm rector can provide tickets at a discount? Can anyone tell me how that works?

Tickets are already half price for students. The money in the situation you’re referring to comes from the Rectors’ Discretionary Fund, which is a stipend they receive for things like football tickets, flights home to visit sick relatives, things of that nature. I don’t know your personal monetary situation, but keep in mind though, these are for students who are in demonstrable financial need, who come from a poor background and are attending Notre Dame on substantial financial aid, not for students who are from a comfortable background but didn’t really save enough from their summer job to pay for tickets. This is an issue you can discuss with your rector when you arrive on campus in the Fall, as Freshman tickets are distributed a few days after Frosh-O.

I got the package about football tickets yesterday…apparently we pick them up at some talk about harassment, alcoholic and sexual misbehavior/rules during freshmen orientation. It appears they do this to ensure that everyone goes to this lecture. They are $238 I believe. Additionally, parents get one game a year (mine got the UConn game) and they are guaranteed 4 tickets, but can apply for 8 in which the school will use a lottery if there are limited amounts of seats.

You need to contact your rector about funds. In my dorm, my rector will usually assign small tasks around the dorm (shoveling, cleaning, etc) to residents in exchange for cash. I think it depends on the dorm, but my rector allows anyone to do this, even if their family doesn’t qualify for financial aid.

Shellzie, most dorms do that, but as hall staff next year, I can tell you that these are two separate situations.

The rectors’ fund does exist, but I believe that in order to be eligible, you have to have accepted each item offered to you in your financial aid package, including loans. However, it could be different in different dorms.
