Football ticket packages announced for freshmen & transfers

I was at UA when Esquire magazine did that hatchet job piece on the machine. And I was there when the crimson white tried to stakeout machine meetings and post the names of each houses representatives. I hope many of them found other lines of work, because journalists they were not. That said, I know of no illegalities ONE has committed.

Greeks make up roughly 20% of the student body. The fact they dominate the SGA is an indictment on the other 80% not on them. Do they bloc vote? Absolutely. Do other groups, races, nationalities, sexual orientations do the same (both on campus and in the real world)? ABSOLUTELY

I just fail to see how the Greeks are privileged by The University. Other than loans from The University to the various House corporations, I don’t know of one thing Greeks get that isn’t offered to any other student or campus organization.

As for Engineering students. They can thank a former UA Greek (Richard Shelby) for the money and influence he had in getting them their new digs.

Anyway the Greek - GDI debate has gone on for years. People have their own predisposed thoughts, so no amount of arguing & discussion is going to change anyone’s mind. No hard feelings. We’ll just agree to disagree.

Hatchet job? Are you kidding me? I personally saw Greek pledges tear down posters for non Machine candidates. And you might want to ask Gov. Bob Riley’s daughter Minda Riley, about the machine, and what it did to her, a sorority member by the way, who just happend to face the consequences for going against the Machine.

The problem is not the bloc voting, but the intimidation, threats, and voting irregularities. Ask the non Machine candidate one year ago, Kendra Key, about the voting irregularities that occurred. The tactics of the Machine is the one negative thing about UA. That is the truth.

But you are right that non Machine apathy is a big problem too. Point taken.
