Whats the deal with getting tickets for football games and student seating section and stuff?

NU students all have to enter by a certain gate. With a valid WildCard, students get in for free and gain access to the student section, which is bleachers on the home-side of the field and is by the endzone to 10 yard line. Seating is first-come, first-served. With the lone exception of the Ohio State or Michigan games back when NU was in the hunt for a big 10 title, the student section almost never fills up.
Its unfortunate that the quarter system (which I love on the whole) keeps us from attending the first couple home games every year. I will say that A LOT of students go to games. Some students, like myself, are hardcore sports fans and treat the game with an NFL-like atmosphere. Other guys and a lot of girls go to have a good time and enjoy the camaraderie (I completely butchered that spelling, I think). Before the game there are tons of people out tailgating, playing cornhole, and alumni who come back to have wine & cheese despite being well into their 60s, 70s, or even 80s.
I find that NU's football tradition and success truly separates it from all other elite schools in the nation. It's a lot of fun and 80% of the campus really looks forward to it.

Do students get free entrance to the games that happen before school starts (such as the Sept. 1 game)?

One other question, am I correct in assuming that the stadium rarely sell out?

Yes, students get free admission to all home games. Judging by that question, I'm guessing you are an incoming freshman, which means you don't have a valid (or invalid, for that matter) WildCard. I suggest calling the athletics department to ask if you can get a temporary pass or if your name and a driver's license @ Will Call will be sufficient.

Incoming students can get their Wildcard the summer before they start school. Just call the Wildcard office to make sure they're open on the day you plan to get it. I got mine a couple months before the first game of my freshman year when I was in Evanston.

Looking at their hours, it's not clear whether they're still open over summer. You should email or call them.

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately I'd be coming into Chicago on that Saturday and the office is closed Saturday so it looks like I'm out of luck..oh well.. Btw, I'm actually a soph transfer.
