Northwestern SPORTS!

Can anyone give me the 411 on the sports scene at Northwestern. I am a huge fanatic and breathe college basketball and football. I assume many people go to the football games, but how about the basketball games? As per club and intramural sports, which ones are most popular?

I certainly cannot.

I went to every football game and it was a lot of fun...pretty crazy for being at 10 and 11 in the morning. Of course the games and the fans aren't quite up to the same caliber as other Big 10 schools, but that obviously has to do with being a private school. If you love college basketball then you will be sorely disappointed with NU basketball, sadly.

The way I look at it, having good sports teams is an added bonus to attending a school. So, all in all, the sports program is a pretty nice gift on top of the academic side of things.

Football games are a good time, but it's certainly no comparison to being at Michigan Stadium on a beautiful fall day with 111,000 other fans. The great thing is there's no assigned seating, so if you're a dedicated early riser you can get great seats in the first couple rows pretty easily. Plus NU is in the Big 10 so even in the years where NU isn't very good you still get to see teams like Michigan and Ohio State up close and personal. The women's lacrosse games are actually pretty fun as well. They're currently ranked #1 in the country and they won the national championship game last year. Nothing like hot athletic girls running around in skirts, eh? ;-)

if you like basketball, good luck... my high school team played a game there last month and NU's "stadium" wasn't large enough to hold all of the people who wanted to attend the game. i think it's closer in size to my high school gym than to any other big 10 stadium. with a place so small, i doubt they have many basketball fans.

NU Football is great. Free seating for all students, pretty good attendance, lots of fun cheers and songs, people get really into it since we're usually the underdogs. Lots of great Big 10 games to attend also!

NU Basketball, not so much. No one is really hardcore behind our team, we struggle to get good attendance, and the team isn't fantastic. Can't win 'em all.

My brother used to be one their cheerleading team, they were pretty good ;)
