So I'm not a major football fan but I do want to go to a game or two. I didn't buy any sports packages because I couldn't understand what exactly I was buying, and none of the friends that I asked really knew either. Could someone please explain it?

You could buy the LASP (all sports package) for $80. That gives you entrance into all games. However, since so many people have that, there wouldn’t be room for everyone to go to the football games. So, there’s two options. You can a)get in line really early and hope you get a ticket or b)purchase a reserved seat and a guaranteed spot at all home games for $70 extra. So the total would be $150.

The same is true for basketball, but I don’t think it’s as hard to get tickets without buying the season tickets. But the LASP by itself will get you into everything else just fine (baseball, tennis, volleyball, etc.)

Feel free to correct me anywhere I was wrong, folks.

I’m curious - for just a regular home game (not a particularly exciting opponent), are there quite a few students who aren’t able to get tickets? When I was at UT, I don’t remember that being a problem. We had the lottery for OU, but that was the only game I remember worrying about. I was lucky and got tickets all four years. There were 48,000 students when I attended and not as many seats in the stadium, too.

Thanks darthbarry17! That clears it up for me!

Unfortunately, most games are “sold out”. The tickets (even student tickets) show up on Craigslist and Ebay. :-(

So student tickets can be used to get in by someone without a student id?

Not officially (although the gate folks don’t always check for IDs). Unfortunately some students pick up the max # of tickets during the draws (6, I think) and then sell the rest through ebay, craigslist, or on the street instead of allowing their fellow students to get them free (with LASP).
